NEWS & VIEWS

Our celebration of Easter continues and today is Good Shepherd Sunday: The Gospel tells of Jesus describing himself as a Shepherd, as prefigured in Psalm 23 that we will hear sung. He calls his sheep (that is his followers) by name. We pray that we will know his voice and follow him where he leads.

EVENSONG WITH THE ARCHBISHOP OF YORK All are specially invited to Evensong at Chelmsford Cathedral at 3.30pm today, when the Most Reverend and Right Honourable Stephen Cottrell will preach, and the portrait made of him when he was the tenth Bishop of Chelmsford (from 2010-2020) will be unveiled. There will be no Evening Prayer at St Mary’s today.

CORONATION BELLS Our friends the East London Bell Ringers will ring our bells in celebration from 4-5pm on Coronation Day.

CORONATION SUNDAY If you are able and willing to contribute food/drink for a celebratory light lunch and drinks to mark this historic event following Mass next Sunday, please choose a slip from the back of church and bring the item named on it to church before Mass. For further details please speak to Emma Jeffery.

ELECTORAL ROLL REVISION Our official membership register -  our Electoral Roll - is being revised until tomorrow. If you are already on the roll you need do nothing. Otherwise, if you are a regular here, are baptised and are aged 16 or over, we strongly encourage you to join. If you are unsure, or for more information, please ask Emma Jeffery – emma@stmarysilford.org.uk. Application forms are available on paper in church and to download with the link below.

FLOWERS The flowers in church today were donated in loving memory of Ron and Pat Smith. Jesu Mercy; Mary Pray.

ILFORD COMMUNITY GROCERY for £5 a year anyone can fill their grocery basket twice a week for £4 each time at City Gates, 25-29 Clements Road, between 9.30 and 4.30 Monday-Friday. The quality of the food available is very good and free support courses are on offer at the same venue. Details at communitygrocery.org.uk/ilford or from 020 3422 6511.

REGULAR GIVING We rely on the people who worship at St Mary’s to cover the costs associated with our church. Financial giving to fund the ministry of the Church is part of being a Christian and an essential part of our commitment to our faith. Please, if you don’t already, would you consider giving a regular amount each month? We are really struggling to make ends meet! No amount is too small. Using our parish giving plan is easy and you are in full control (and Margaret Quinney will be pleased to help you if needed).
