September Roundup 🍃

Some major things have happened in our community in the last month. And while these things should not be ignored, we tried our hardest to make this Roundup a breath of fresh air. Things will get better and we will get through this.

The Central Oregon riding season is far from over, and many would argue, about to be in its prime, with optimal dirt and cooler temps. Right now we have a nice selection of bikes (with many discounted ones) and a variety of outerwear to keep you moving outside for the next few months no matter the conditions.

Stringies Armless Eyewear 😎

Just a few months back we had a segment on our newsletter about Stringies armless sunglasses—a company started by two former Blazin Saddles employees—and we figured giving an update on their latest product could be of interest to you.

Bennett Lewis and Dan Schmidt (both Sisters HS graduates), started seriously pursuing the idea of launching Stringies as a business about a year ago. In the time since they’ve learned a lot about the sunglass industry. They began by buying plastic, run-of-the-mill sunglasses and retrofitting them so that they could be strung to the wearer's head for every action sport imaginable. However, neither of them felt all that satisfied with their product, so after scratching their heads for a few months, they realized how environmentally unsustainable the current sunglass industry is and designed a product to counter that. They discovered quality sunglasses could be made of wood and viola *lightbulb moment* their first actual product was birthed!

These glasses are incredible for any sort of active lifestyle (especially if you bike). They don’t come off, they don’t break, and they make your wallet happier than most sunglasses. While you can’t quite order a pair of their newest wooden models yet (they’re still dialing in their local, decentralized manufacturing process), you can come to the shop and purchase some of their original prototype pairs, and signup on their website by clicking here, to be notified once “the most high-quality biodegradable sunglasses in the world” go live!

Sisters Trail Alliance September Update 🌲

STA is hosting an aid station for the Three Sisters Skyline Race on Saturday, September 24th and SURE COULD USE YOUR HELP!!

A quick email back to Ann Richardson at info@sisterstrails.org with the shift you'd prefer will do the trick, and, AND - your volunteer time magically turns into a generous donation from Alpine Running to the Trails Alliance, how cool is that?

Here's the help we need:

  • Pick up Supplies at Village Green Park & help set up aid station: 1 or 2 volunteers at 8:45 am [2 tables, water jugs, 1-2 10 x 10 canopies, 2-3 bins with food & other supplies]. It would be great if these volunteers could also work the first shift.

  • Help set up aid station & host first shift: 9 am – 12:30 pm  3 – 4 volunteers

  • Host second shift & help take down: 12:30 pm – 4 pm (cut-off is 3 pm but aid station stays set up until sweep comes through)  3 – 4 volunteers

  • Help take down & return supplies to Village Green Park - ~3:30 or 4 pm - 1 or 2 volunteers. Again it would be great if these could be folks working the second shift.

From COTA Trail News - September:

COTA is celebrating their 30th anniversary!

Come celebrate with us at one of their weekend extravaganza events:

  • Friday, October 14, 6pm-until: 30th Anniversary Party at Silver Moon Brewing - hear the story of COTA’s history

  • Saturday, October 15, 9am-2pm: Fall Trail Love - one of our biggest trail work days of the year!

  • Sunday, October 16, 10am-1pm: Nacho Grandma’s Bingo at Silver Moon Brewing - you win/trails win

Find details and RSVP on Meetup.

If every mountain biker in Central Oregon gave $30 to celebrate COTA's 30 year anniversary it would fund COTA's operations for 3 years! That’s some pretty cool numerology right there. Let’s make it happen! Donate today and you’ll receive a limited edition 30 Years of Trails sticker as a thank you!

Proving Grounds 📍

Do you know that crazy Redbull Rampage event in Utah every year? The one where people jump off ginormous cliffs and do tricks on their bikes?

Well, right now, in Prineville, there is the only qualifying event for Rampage, and it's called The Proving Grounds. This means death-defying jumps and drops are being sent left and right as some of the world's best riders compete for an entrance into one of mountain biking's most legendary events.

Check out this video from practice, and stay tuned for next month's Roundup where we'll make sure to include a video showing the highlights from the competition this last weekend.

September's Must Watch 📹

Speaking of Redbull Rampage, here's a video from local pro skier and biker, Sage Cattabriga-Alosa, ripping around some Central Oregon terrain in a very Redbull Rampage-esque way. Check it out!

Well, that’s all we have for this month’s Roundup. Excuse it for being a little shorter than usual as we transition into this next season and take some time for ourselves and our staff after one of our best summers ever. Speaking of staff, check out our about page to get to know our rockin' staff!

We’re always looking to improve every month's Roundup, so if you have any suggestions about what we should add or change, drop us a line at info@blazinsaddleshub.com.

As always, thanks for being here, and we’ll hopefully see you in the shop sometime soon.

With gratitude and love,

The Blazin Saddles Crew
