Many years ago I pondered this question: Will the Real Man Stand? Wondering what are the characteristics and values of a man. Although a man’s physical features are easy on the eyes, I’ve come to discover the values and characteristics are just as important in a man’s makeup (so to speak). However, If you ask any woman she would give you her version of what a man should be: his looks, characteristics, religion, and values. Whatever the image a woman believes a man should possess, the fabric of a man has many layers from his boyhood to manhood. In comparison to a woman, a man has many life, hats to wear such as being a father, a husband, a son, a brother, an uncle, a grandfather, and the list goes on and on. All of the titles, are significant for the relationships he will build and establish with the important people in his life. |

The verbal phrase “Man Up,” is an action boys and men are being told to do to show bravery and exit out of their emotions. Will a Man Up mentality really promote masculinity? Will a “Man Up” attitude promote a man to fulfill his responsibilities? |
|
|
Perhaps the word “Man Up” should be considered as “Man Out” and don’t use the verbal phrase at all. If there are challenges for a man to find his personal manhood, he will find his rites of passage in his own way and in his own time. |
|
|
What’s important is the significant people in his life giving him support and love with positive words and actions. Although a man experiences many ups and downs from his boyhood to manhood, the hope is for him to be the best man he can be for himself and his loved ones. As the boy develops into a man, his loved ones are hoping for the best relationship outcomes from those many man titles of life producing the fabrics of a man (silk, linen, denim, chiffon, velvet, etc…). |

Question: Will The Real Man Stand up for his loved ones, waiting to nurture and cherish his relationships with positive experiences and life challenges allowing him to grow into his manhood. Question: Will The Real Man Stand because we are waiting for his guidance, love, support, your smile, your laugh, pep talks, your protection, your prayers, etc... and the godly man you are becoming in our family lives. Happy Father's Day!👔💙 |

In my early twenties, I struggled with trying to please people. When I was asked for a favor from someone or attended an event I really didn't want to go to, I honestly could not say, “NO”. I was always concerned about other people's feelings instead of my own. After years of finding the power within myself, to understand it's okay to say, "NO". I felt less stressed and empowered towards my social assertiveness. |

With the dissension in the Tennis World with reigning U.S. Open Champion Naomi Osaka (aka N.O.), has taken her stance to say, "NO" to protect her mental well-being from media interviews. Everyone may have their opinion on what she should or shouldn't do as an athlete or as a human being. However, it is her prerogative to protect her mental well-being at the end of the day. When she reflects on this controversy in the days and years to come, only Naomi can confirm she made the right decision to say, "NO". |

What’s Your Home Gym Equipment? |

As the gyms closed during the Covid-19 Pandemic, a section in homes became our own personal gym space. As we scrambled to stay fit, gym equipment on Amazon became my fitness search for exercise accessories at home. While working out with one of my best girlfriends, she shared with me her weighted hula hoop and I shared with her my weighted ball. |
|
|
When I put the hula hoop around my waist, and started hooping, it brought back so many childhood memories of hula hooping on the yard during recess in Elementary School. As an adult, to sustain the repeated circular motion of the hula hoop around my waist, is still fun and a good fitness challenge. Now I hula hoop at least three times a week, and I am noticing weight loss and muscle toning in my abs. Also, hula hooping is helping me keep a fit waist line. |

Juneteenth is a celebration of Black Heritage, a rich culture filled with strength, pride, resilience, and love. This Juneteenth I’m celebrating my ancestors’ power they endured within God to overcome slavery, and should be regained with Reparations overdue. The forty acres and a mule to be regained, from the enslavement and brutality my ancestors endured. Question: How are you celebrating Juneteenth this year? What is your vision to celebrate Juneteeth this year? |

Answer: Let’s embrace Juneteenth in unity and celebrate the Black Experience with a taste of Soul food, black culture musical vibes, support black businesses, build family values, watch Black Entertainment, and represent our culture of fashion. We should be mindful to learn of Black Wall Street and the Tulsa Massacre of black people in Oklahoma. |

Lastly, if there is an elder blessed to grace us with their presence of life, have them share their life story. You will be blessed and amazed to learn something new about Black History. As I am self reflecting about Juneteenth this year, my intention is to continue to grow and get better in my weaknesses, to become my best authentic self. I owe it to my ancestors who paved the way for me to have freedom, and to be successful in life. It is important that I uphold the beloved meaning of the Sankofa motto. |

Let’s do just that, let’s go back and get our rich culture, and celebrate who we are as a people inside and out. Our ancestors are waiting on us, so we should not let our cloud of witnesses down as they are watching us from heaven. Let’s make them proud of our accomplishments, endurance, our unity, and our power as a people. |
|

This Father's Day I am celebrating in gratitude. I'm very thankful to my father Eugene Jackson who demonstrated love, support, and encouragement in all of my endeavors. I live by his motto, “Do the best you can” and I'm doing just that, hoping I am making him proud. Also this Father’s Day, I am reflecting as a boy mom. My hope is that my sons Christian and Omarri will be the best men they can be for themselves, and to be the best fathers they can be for their families. My hope is for them to accomplish their dreams, and be happy in life. |

Although our black sons have their challenges in life, with love, guidance, and support there is nothing they can’t do, or become in life. Let’s continue to be the village that supports their male development and endeavors in life. This Father's Day I celebrate all the men in my life, and I'm very grateful for their love and support! Happy Father's Day!❤️ |
