Self-discipline Leads to Freedom

Professor Fang Shu

Just recently, many of my friends who haven't seen me for a long time said that I had gotten stronger. This morning, my training partners at the gym also noticed that my shoulders had grown more muscular.

The compliments are gratifying to me. Of course, in comparison with many bodybuilders
who insist on fitness for a long time, my muscles still lag way far behind. In spite of this, the results for a weightlifting novice who only exercised for more than eight months and twice a week seem impressive. Although I believe that this is an accumulation process, the coach believes that there must be a reason why I am improving faster than many people who have unlimited access to the gym. Our discussion recently focused on why I can make such a vast improvement.

First of all, weightlifting itself is what I believe allows me to achieve such encouraging results. During my workouts, my focus is solely on Olympic Weightlifting and Powerlifting. In my opinion, weightlifting helps build muscle more efficiently than commercial gym fitness and cardio exercises. Second, I believe it lies in self-discipline.

In these eight months, I made sure that I lifted weights twice a week, even if I had another commitment on that particular day. In order to maximize my training time, I concentrate on what I am doing, rarely use my cell phone, and do not miss a minute or second. As much as possible, I limit my junk food intake, and I eat more healthy foods high in protein. Haha, I swear that I never take any magic pills like steroids!

Most people may find adopting a disciplined lifestyle to be boring, but I want to tell you that self-discipline leads to freedom. It is true that self-discipline may feel restricting for a while, but it will be beneficial in the long run. It establishes your inner strength and heightens your chances of success.

I believe we all agree that self-discipline is a precious quality, but being self-disciplined is tough. Are you struggling with self-discipline? I found this great YouTube video (5:28) for you. Please make sure to watch it below.
