The QFCA has released its new strategic plan for 2019-2022. We want to see Neighbourhood and Community Centres across Queensland valued for the work they do which is why we're concentrating on 4 key areas to increase the sector's profile: | | |
| | Hervey Bay Neighbourhood Centre are doing some great things with their social enterprise "The Wandering Teapot" in partnership with the local Stocklands Shopping Centre. Their second shopfront opening was featured on Win News Wide Bay as well their new kindness garden for people experiencing homelessness. You can check out the full news story here: | | |
| | Residents living in the Wilsonton community in Toowoomba will benefit from a new and larger neighbourhood centre thanks to Queensland Government funding of up to $3.6 million. This is great news for the Heights Community Centre that has outgrown it's small facility over the past 13 years. | | |
| | The Mayor of Toowoomba Regional Council Paul Antonio visited East Creek Community Centre recently and produced a wonderful video profiling the work of the centre. You can check out the video here: | | |
| | Neighbourhood Centres nationwide can apply for grants up to $8000 in the "Active Neighbourhoods for Older Australians" initiative. You must be a member of the QFCA to apply for this program which is a partnership between the Australian Neighbourhood Houses and Centres Association (ANHCA), Musculoskeletal Australia and the University of Sydney. | | |
| | Promotional videos not only promote services but often increase profile and investment. If you can find the funding, a 2 minute individualised promotional video from Crafted Media (including drone footage) will cost you around $5000. Otherwise, try contacting your local high school/university film and TV course. Youtube also have programs specifically for non-profit organisations: | | |
| | Neighbourhood House Week 2019 is an opportunity for all of us to raise the profile of Neighbourhood Centres nationwide. It takes place just prior to the Federal Election so is a timely event to invite politicians to an open day, family festival, or morning tea for some extra exposure. All the resources you need to promote the day can be found here: | | |
| | The QFCA has been working closely with QCOSS to see an increase in Neighbourhood and Community Centre funding across the state for several years now. We think the time has now come to see action. It takes more than one person to run a Neighbourhood Centre. That's why we're asking for double the funding. | | |
| | The Strengthening Rural Communities grant program is designed for small rural, regional and remote community organisations. Priority is given to small community projects for populations with less than 15,000 people and organisations that do not have Deductible Gift Recipient (DGR) Tax status. You can apply right here: | | |
