Your source for information on the latest from De La Mesa Farms,
including what to expect for farmers' markets and CSAs
This week's farm newsletter is coming out later than expected. It's been a beyond hectic week. On Thursday, we learned that our almost 2-year old contracted Hand, Foot Mouth Disease from her preschool - a relatively benign virus which kids 5 and under in close settings are susceptible too. Still, managing a feverish cranky toddler has been exhausting. Luckily we ended the week with a much needed visit from close friends who helped us around the farm and reminded us how important it is to also take a break once in a while under the walnut tree with a mimosa.
This week we're highlighting heirlooms and specialty herbs from our market garden. Your CSA will include various heirloom tomatoes, an aromatic herb native to Oaxaca that we picked up from our travels and a special hybrid purple basil. Buen provecho!
And don't forget, you can place your pre-orders on our website starting every Thursday evening for pickup the following week at farmer's markets and on-farm. Deadline to place your orders is Sunday
Our daughter, Dahlia, checking on the "cheeps cheeps" daily.
These two wonderful human beings, Matt and Genevieve, came to visit us this weekend and help out on the farm. Last year they started a cross-country trip living the "van life." It comes to a close in a little over 3 months when they get married in Oregon. We're thankful to have such great friends and supporters.
Wilma, the van, deserves her own photo.
Hard at work cleaning out encroachment, amending beds, building beds and solarizing new areas of the farm.
This is chepiche, an aromatic Mexican herb also known as "pipicha" or "papalo delgado." A little over four years Natalie and Bryan visited Oaxaca, bought some floweing chepiche at a farmers market and saved the seed. With that saved seed, we've been growing this wonderful herb ever since.
Matt helped us take some aerial photos of the farm with his drone. It was so cool to see our farm's progress from this bird's eye view.
Shishito peppers are finally ready. Come and get them!
