The UNODC END-VAC Programme took part in international webinars and online events to raise awareness on how to protect the rights of children deprived of liberty during the COVID-19 pandemic and on the opportunity that this crisis represents to prove that alternatives to detention can be a solution to the economic and public health crisis that States are facing. The UNODC END-VAC Programme has also been supporting the efforts of the Governments of Indonesia, Maldives and Kazakhstan in protecting children from terrorism. |

| | 03 July 2020 – A “kick off” meeting was held between UNODC and representatives from the Government of Indonesia to commence a consultative process to support the Governments’ efforts in promoting the rehabilitation and reintegration of children associated with terrorist and violent extremist groups. In 2020, the Republic of Indonesia launched the 'Bali Call for Action', a historical political declaration which endorses the UNODC Roadmap on the Treatment of Children Associated with Terrorist and Violent Extremist Groups. | | |

| | 04 July 2020 – A High-level Round Table was held with Maldivian national counterparts to present the preliminary findings and opportunities that UNODC identified for strengthening its juvenile justice system as a result of Technical Assistance Needs Assessment. Honourable Mr. Ali Nazeer, Minister of State for Home Affairs, thanked UNODC by stating that "the Government of Maldives is keen to invest its resources to prevent children from coming into conflict with the law" and concluded on his "country's commitment to reform the juvenile justice sector (...).” Maldives recently enacted the Juvenile Justice Act and Child Rights Protection Act. | | |

05 July 2020 – A national Roundtable with representatives from the Government of Kazakhstan was held to validate the content of the UNODC Technical Assistance Needs Assessment Report on Prevention and Responses to Violence against Children by Terrorist and Violent Extremist Groups, including children affected by the Foreign Terrorist Fighter Phenomenon. |
