Hello, from the LANCE Trust’s small but busy team. We really appreciate your support: signing up to our newsletter, following our Facebook page and volunteering (see below for further opportunities to help out).

Our mission, as ever, is to improve biodiversity in and around Long Ashton.

🌱 Upcoming volunteering day: Tuesday 9th July
THE GREAT HEDGE CREATION PROJECT!

Now that summer has finally arrived, we need to finish the aftercare on our newly planted hedgerow at Bridge Farm. The hedge is growing well and almost every single whip has survived. However, to give it the best chance over the coming months, we need to finish weeded, tidying and mulching.

So, we will be meeting at Bridge Farm on July 9th at 10am to (hopefully) finish up for the year! We’ll aim to finish for the day at 3pm, but there is no requirement to stay if you have other commitments.

The meeting point will be in the field opposite Bridge Farm (the other side of Yanley Lane) and parking will be available at the Long Ashton Cricket Club. Please bring water, food, gloves and suitable clothing for any weather! Also, if you have any tools for cutting back brambles and weeds, please bring them along.

🐦 Swifts walk & talk success

Our first swift walk & talk was a great success, it was wonderful to see such a big group, from areas beyond Long Ashton too. We'd like to run another, so keep an eye on email and our Facebook page.

🎙️ We were on the radio!

Along with the Long Ashton Swift Project, BBC Radio Bristol came to the village to learn about the amazing swifts we are working to protect. Follow the link and skip forward to 1:46:30 for the swift segment.

🧪 Monitoring our streams' health

The final group of riverfly monitors were trained this month. We are now set up to survey for key species in seven stream locations in Long Ashton, to gauge the health and quality of the water.
