Happy New Year 2001: remember, your future?

It is a proven fact that ALL our memories of the past are highly inaccurate:

be them happy or tragic, they are nothing but narrations,

poshtumous interpretations of dead events.

The good news is, whereas the past canNOT be remembered,

it CAN be interpreted.

["To interpret" in Latin meand "to go inside the stone": inter petras]

Given that accurately remembering the past is ipso facto a waste of time, we may end up having more fun remembering our future, the way we want it

or have genuinely already seen it, in our mind's eye

(for "It's a poor sort of memory, that only works backwards").

I seemed to remember my future well, while stopping at the Foggia train station

(on my way back to Bologna after the summer holidays)

on Aug 24th, 2001:

«Today I received the light, today the fruit ripens, the cycle completes.

The interpreter is the Sun.

As Sun, the interpreter penetrates the creation and enlightens it,

as the light does with a landscape.

The interpreter that is not Sun, who cannot shed light, who is not enlightened,

hasn't found his own nature.

That is the executor. That is not light.»

«A composer, too, is an interpreter;

so are the author, the librettist:

they are consecutive, consequential, counterpointing interpreters;

and like the Sun is reborn daily, so must the Sun-interpreter be reborn,

in order to speak the language of their Time.

Without Sun, the Earth would have no colours, flavours and smells;

so would Opera -which is in its own nature a way to interpretat reality-

die, without Light.»

«The last interpreter is the spectator; child to be initiated to the light,

for through the interpretation he can be enlightened and he may operate creatively within his soul and life.

Believing in Opera is like believing in anything else.

Believing gives life;

he who does not believe (for he hasn't found?)

ignores he has the power to enlighten.

Light is intangible, yet makes us cry in front of a sunset and feeds us with the harvest.

Ed oggi sono felice.»

«[Believing] that God is within us and that we have a divine, creative essence (soul) which is capable to inform, enlighten, interpret -indeed- the world and our own life.

PS: Light spread. Darkness is still.

He who discovers light, feels the urgency to spread it.»

Buon Anno Nuovo Solare 2023.
