Congratulations, York County! You read more than 4 million minutes during this year's "Tails and Tales" Summer Learning Challenge! Thank you for helping us meet our reading goal, and thanks also to our sponsor, the Friends of the York County Library, for helping to make this Challenge possible. We hope you enjoyed our "paw-some" virtual performances, activities, and prizes!

Get Connected: The Emergency Broadband Benefit 
Helping Households Connect During the Pandemic

YCL is working to help build consumer awareness about the FCC's Emergency Broadband Benefit for families and households struggling to afford internet service during the COVID-19 pandemic. This temporary program provides discounts on broadband service and devices for qualified households. To learn more about the discounts, eligibility, and how to apply, click here or visit www.fcc.gov/broadbandbenefit.

New Resources Now Available in DISCUS
YCL is excited to announce several new online resources provided by Discus — South Carolina’s Virtual Library. Discus offers free, 24/7-access to an electronic library of reliable, up-to-date resources on a wide variety of subjects for all ages. The newest resources include:

African-American History: Explore the African-American experience through biographies, videos, primary documents, timelines, articles, and more.
 
Ferguson's Career Guidance Center: Explore 140 industries and career fields and thousands of professions through detailed content, video interviews, career interest assessments, and more.

PebbleGo and PebbleGo Next: Learning about animals, their behavior, and habitats is easy and fun with PebbleGo - Animals, ideal for children in grades K-3 and accessible in both English and Spanish. For grades 3–5, PebbleGo Next - Biographies lets students explore the lives of people across 16 categories, from actors to world leaders.

York County Library Hours and Closing Notices
Monday–Friday: 10 a.m.–6 p.m. • Saturday: 10 a.m.–2 p.m.

Staff Development Day: All Library locations will be closed Wednesday, August 25, for staff training.
 
Labor Day: All Library locations will be closed Saturday, September 4, through Monday, September 6, for Labor Day.
