The Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) recently unveiled the 2023-2024 Accountability Ratings for the state’s schools and districts, providing a comprehensive look at student performance and overall educational quality. Each school and district is graded annually on an A-F scale, based on a variety of indicators, including student achievement, student growth, student participation in testing, and other academic measures.
To achieve an "A" rating, districts must earn a minimum of 668 points, and this year’s report brought positive news for the Starkville-Oktibbeha Consolidated School District (SOCSD). The district's overall score rose from 648 points last year to 671 points this year, pushing it into the "A" rating category.
This improvement reflects the dedication of the students, teachers, and administrative staff across the district. Importantly, none of the individual schools within SOCSD experienced a decline in their ratings. Moreover, no school within the district received a rating lower than a "B"—a significant achievement that underscores SOCSD’s commitment to providing quality education for all its students.
Across the state, the accountability ratings are a benchmark for identifying strengths, areas for growth, and making data-driven decisions to better serve students. The MDE’s accountability system serves as a vital tool in ensuring that every child in Mississippi has access to quality education. As districts like SOCSD continue to improve and move up the rating scale, it becomes clear that investments in education can produce meaningful outcomes for students and communities alike.
Parents, students, and community members are encouraged to stay involved, celebrate these accomplishments, and support ongoing efforts to ensure every child reaches their full potential.
