FEBRUARY / MARCH

Hello KPC Members and Supporters,

Welcome to our February / March news!

Kinning Park Complex is going through significant changes to make it more robust and sustainable for the future. Some of these changes marked the end of our projects. This newsletter is focused on celebrating our achievements, milestones, memories, and stories we have experienced throughout this period.

We want to thank all our community members, volunteers, funders, and visitors for their support and trust. And a special thank you to our powerful staff team that has dedicated all their hard work to helping our community flourish.

We hope that you continue supporting KPC!

๐Ÿ˜Š Kinning Park Community Kitchen! ๐Ÿ˜Š

This month will see the end of the Kinning Park Community Kitchen project.

Itโ€™s been a whirlwind of a year, weโ€™ve hosted 94 community meals, made over 10,000 meals and our volunteers have devoted 1200 hours of their time.

Weโ€™ve persevered through a freezing kitchen, a falling ceiling and no dishwasher to come out the other side with a community meal that has become a cornerstone for fighting food poverty and isolation within our community.

Last month long time volunteer Georgina taught us how to make Pupusa for our El Salvidorian themed meal!

We are very sad that meals are ending but we are optimistic that new projects and opportunities will arise where we can share; food, stories and good times with our pals.

We are proud of everything we have achieved as a community and would like to thank everyone who has had a part in the last year.

Thank you for all of your support!

Big love Mathilde, Jamie, Hannah, Lindsey (pictured on the right).

๐Ÿค— Because We Say So! ๐Ÿค—

Over the last 3 years the CLD team at KPC have been involved in many various activities and partnerships. The โ€˜Because We Say Soโ€™ project was responsible for the Local Place Plan, which was published in 2022. The main aims and objectives for the LPP were: civic pride, community activities, community facilities and parks & green spaces.

The CLD team worked within the aims and objectives by running activities/events and workshops such as the yearly Paisley Road Festival, working with community development groups such as the Kingston DIY Skatepark project, working to improve vacant & derelict land, fly tipping issues, community walkabouts, litter picking and gardening, and much more!

We could not have done all this without our residents, volunteers, local businesses and partners! It has been a privilege being invited into peopleโ€™s lives and working alongside them over the past 3 years.

As a team we have been inspired by the people who live here, and are grateful for their time and dedication to the various activities and projects part of Because We Say So. We are also thankful for the support we have received from businesses through generous donations for events and our partners who have assisted in delivering our activities and projects. The neighbourhoods of Kinning Park, Plantation, Ibrox, Cessnock, Kingston and Tradeston are all the better because of you, and so may that continue!

๐Ÿ˜‰ Community Wellbeing and Participation ๐Ÿ˜‰

In February, the Community Wellbeing and Participation team said our goodbyes to one of the leads, Katy, as she left Kinning Park Complex to embark on a new opportunity. We canโ€™t thank her enough for all the energy and hard work that she put into making KPC a welcoming, inclusive and supportive space for everyone who came through the door!

Now, with the project coming to an end, the remaining team members โ€“ Kevin, Stef, Rago and Dylan โ€“ are also sad to be saying our goodbyes to community members. Our project as it has been in the last year was created by weaving together aspects of activities and work we used to do at community meals before the building closure, and the A-OK project, which ran through the pandemic, offering remote support. Over the years, there have been too many highlights to count.

Itโ€™s been a joy to be a part of so many peopleโ€™s lives and do our best to support them. We are honoured to have got to witness so many grow in confidence, create friendships and participate more actively in their communities, becoming less isolated as a result.

You can read a bit more from our team here.

Weโ€™ll miss everyone and hope to get an opportunity to share other meals with you in the future ๐Ÿ˜Š

๐Ÿ™ Thank you! ๐Ÿ™

Thank you again for your support and everything you have contributed to our growth!

We hope to see you around more in the future.

Kinning Park Complex is forever going to be in our hearts!
