Meena Farms' Cherry Orchards Are Weathering The Storms
Some of our surrounding areas have experienced localized flooding throughout the last few weeks, but we (as cherry growers) view this as a benefit.
HERE IS WHY...
1) Fortunately, the trees are in dormancy. This means the trees are still asleep which causes growth and development to slow. This natural survival mechanism allows the trees to survive adverse environmental conditions.
2) As the water flows through the orchards, it flushes soils of undesirable nutrients. Leaving our soils in a healthier state, which allows for a happier root system.
3) The rainfall amounts we have seen thus far has already helped ease drought pressure and recharge our local aquifers that help support our cherry orchards.
4) With all the wintery weather, we have recorded a healthy number of chill hours which we hope translates into a larger 2023 cherry crop!
We will continue to keep you updated as this new year unfolds. We are excited and looking forward to another great cherry season!
