"The poor will not come to us, we have to go to them" |

2022 is the year of comebacks: visits from our HSP friends and family, volunteer doctors from German Doctors, and surgeries for our children. |
|
|
German Doctors volunteers' come back For the last two years, HSP have been prevented from receiving volunteer doctors from Germany. But since last April, german doctors are back. It is a great news...

Surgeries go on ! During the Covid period, surgeries for children have slowed down. But in 2022, we resumed our processes. Rouxana and her friends were operated on in June. Most of them have clubfeet. Clubfoot is characterized by a foot turned inward. This deformity of the foot is congenital (present from birth), and can affect a single lower limb or both. These operations allow children to walk normally, and above all, to run and play with their friends. For small children, surgeries are not necessary. We operate a cast feet process on the foot, for a few weeks every year, over several years. This put the foot straight naturally (see last photo). On the other hand, children arriving later at HSP need surgical interventions. |

HSP friends and family visits keep going ! After Véronique, Rémi and Evelyne, the visits continue. We therefore received Clément uncle in mid-April (see below), then Father Laurent's family, first in Jalpaiguri then in Howrah. Our visitors were celebrated with welcoming ceremonies and dancing. Father's three sisters and his mother were able to wear typical local outfits. All shared intense moments with the children and didis and dadas. As announced in the previous Anuprerona, at the end of 2021, the Indian government allowed tourists to return to India. We want this momentum to continue. We hope to have the visit of several other members of our family from October. Every visit from HSP friends and family members gives children and staff a lot of joy and happiness. This allows us to give the best for the organization. Come quickly ! |

A little story... Clément is a new friend of HSP. He lives in Los Angeles since 2016 with his wife and his fourth child. After a career in finance and real estate in France, he decided to become a cabinetmaker. He did a training and then went directly to the United States. He wanted through this new life to get closer to Human relations. He is particularly attached to children, knowing how important it is to grow in a safe environment. He thus came to visit HSP in April...

"Home visits" The "home visits" correspond to the visit of HSP staff to the homes of our children. During the holidays, HSP gives great importance to visiting children. We talk to their families and give them advices on how to improve their living conditions. This allows us to stay in touch and connected with them. We can understand their environments and understand their needs. This connection between each population is the key to HSP success and maintains the spirit of Father Laborde. |

Few facts: At the end of May and June, Alice (Lalkuthi), then Gabrielle (Pushpa) and Emmanuel (Mogradangi) returned to France after 8 and 9 months of voluntary work. Gabrielle (left in the first photo) was a nurse at Pushpa Home, Hospital for Children with Tuberculosis. Alice (on the right of the first photo) and Emmanuel (in blue on the second photo) were educators in Lalkuthi and Mogradangi. Thank you very much for your help, your presence for the children and for all these moments of sharing and strong emotions. |

Easter Like every year, we celebrated Easter. Each center in Howrah celebrated in the neighborhood parish. But in Jalpaiguri, the homes met at Saint Peter Parish just behind the Mogradangi home. The event and the mass were remarkable with a total involvement of the Church and the practitioners. The staging and the Indian songs gave a magnificent atmosphere. |

We recall that HSP is an organization bringing together all castes and religions. Each staff and child is free to participate in these religious events. |

Cultural excursions In April and May, after long months of waiting, the children were finally able to go on a school outing. We went to see the Dakshineswar Kali Temple, then the Belur Math. We then went to see Saint Paul's Cathedral and finally the Mother House of the Missionary Sisters of Charity. These excursions were a magnificent moment of sharing with lots of singing during the journeys, lots of fun and relaxation. The 4 homes from Howrah were able to take advantage of these excursions, spread over 2 days. |

PORTRAIT Michael Tigga Administration assistant "I am Michael Tigga. I have worked for Howrah South Point since April 2004. I came to know Fr. Laborde and Howrah South Point through the Missionary Sisters of Charity. When I was 21, I joined HSP as a caregiver and trained for 6 months at IICP (Indian Institute for Cerebral Palsy). This training taught me how to deal with disabled children and give them proper care. I started at Ashaneer St. Mary's Home and taught at the special school. As a full time caregiver, I worked for 8 years from 2004 to 2012. Then from 2012 to 2017 I worked at a special school as a teacher. Here I learned a lot about teaching and pedagogy. I was very happy to be able to serve the children. Then I was transferred to the HSP office as an administrative assistant and so far I have worked with dedication and support. When I was transferred from the hostels to the office, it was an additional motivation and a real challenge for me. At the office, I made better use of my abilities and became more efficient. This allowed me to help further the poorest. Now I assist Human Resources, Administrator, and help with maintenance works, I thank Howrah South Point for giving me these opportunities. Before working here, I knew nothing about children education and disability. Father Laborde and the employees of HSP gave me all their support and help. They believed in me. Thanks to them, I learned to serve God by serving children." |

We are still seeking for funds for Ashaneer Home ! As a reminder, HSP is seeking donations to install a special coating for the roofs of Ashaneer buildings. As you may know, heatwaves are striking all over India and it will get worse every year. Unfortunately buildings are made of cement and bricks wich capture sun lights and spread the heat by night which make the rooms stay hot 24h. It is becoming very complicated for the children to sleep well. Thus we are looking for donations to have these installations. The costs will be 8000 € (650 000 Rs.) |
