Dear Friends,

Eighteen hours each week for the past six weeks, I've been hanging out at George Washington University, directing Lydia R. Diamond's play, Smart People, with undergraduates. Their bravery and agility with the material and the joy and enthusiasm they brought into the rehearsal room was exhilarating. Last night, in front of their peers and faculty, they opened the show and put it all out there. At the post-opening pizza party the students asked how I felt. "In awe," I replied. Their work was very good. But beyond that, their courage to share on stage, and their compassion and care for each other off stage was exemplary.
