Various Voices Festival 2026 |

|
As we are looking forward to the next Various Voices Festival in Bologna in 2023. Legato is already planning ahead: Two cities would love to host Various Voices 2026: Barcelona and Brussels! Their bidding documents and videos are on the way and next month we will explain how you can view the bids. Each choir will be able to review and provide a score for both bids. Let’s have a glance at the two cities (in alphabetical order): |

BarcelonaBarcelona combines everything that is most charming about Mediterranean cities – a relaxed pace, months of endless sunshine, unbeatable food – with the cultural and design impact of almost any city. Its patchwork of architectural styles displays dark, gothic façades next to the harlequin buildings of the Modernistas and the skyline-piercing constructions of Jean Nouvel or Herzog and de Meuron. A day spent admiring them can be topped off with a sundowner on one of the city’s many beaches before dinner at any number of Michelin-starred gastronomic temples or humble, family-run tapas bars. This is a city with a proud sense of identity and its language, culture and traditional festivals are fiercely guarded. Human pyramids, fire-breathing dragons and fibre-glass giants strolling the streets are in evidence most weekends if you look hard enough. |

BrusselsThere is plenty about Brussels that makes it like no other city. It’s the capital of the European Union for a start (but you wouldn’t necessarily sense it), operating in two native languages (French and Dutch/Flemish). The historic centre is like a reverse donut, with the imposing Grand Place in the middle. Within walking distance, are sublime and surreal art collections (Brueghel, Rubens, Magritte), impressive churches, alluring shops, high-quality eateries (including the legendary chip stands), and splendid eccentricities such as the Manneken-Pis and a comic-book museum (Tintin et al.) Beyond the centre there are streets lined with Art Nouveau buildings, a museum packed with world treasures. There's so much to choose from and be surprised by, as you sip the uniquely local lambic beer flavoured with cherries. |

Pride Month is celebrated every June in tribute to those involved in the Stonewall Riots. |

Annual General Meeting 2021Our Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be scheduled for later this year. The Governance team has been negotiating with the German authorities to make a change to our Articles of Association. This is so we can choose to hold our meetings and votes virtually or in person, or a combination of both. The Law was temporarily changed to allow this option during the covid pandemic but a virtual option allows for greater engagement and democracy. The Board wants to include these options into our Articles and once we have the text agreed we will share these changes with you and set the date for our Annual General Meeting. There are no elections for the Board of Directors this year as the term is for 2 years. We look forward to sharing our work on your behalf to make Legato more relevant and effective to all our members and wider community. |
