The gain and pain of harvesting
Over the last months we looked at how our fruit and berries were growing. From mid of December we started the harvesting season on top of irrigating all the beautiful fruit.
The first harvest was Strawberries and Summer Raspberries and this is ongoing after a little rest in between.
Gooseberries and Currants are backbreaking work and very painful thorns on the Gooseberry bushes make our hands bleed. We released these two flavours just recently and they have been popular. Just a few jars left in our Online Shop.
Then there were Apricots, Damson Plums and recently Almonds and Blood Plums.
Our plums performed the best and our freezer is now full for ongoing supply.
Now as we are closing the door on Summer we are processing Elderberries, and let us tell you, the amount we need to bring you our second best-selling product (Elderberry Syrup) is staggering. For days we were picking the berries and they need to be processed and frozen within two days latest. Every berry needs to be removed from the stalk and that is long and painful work all day and on top it stains everything easily.
Please also read our Elderberry Syrup fact sheet to find out how good it is for your health and why you should start taking it now.
The best harvest of all are Apples and Pears, most of them get eaten straight away. Nothing tastes better than an apple you grow yourself!
Not many people know what it takes to bring the best and highest quality products to your home but we will continue to do so whatever pain we have to go through because we are passionate about what we are doing.
