Farmers Market!

We Just a reminder that SewGreen@Rochester will be at the Westside Farmers Market next week on Tuesday, August 28th from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m.

There are all kinds of fun things to see and do at this event!  So bring a reusable bag or two and don't forget to stop by our booth to say hi!

Summer Fun

Learning something new with the variety of classes we've had so far this summer!  Serger 101/201, Circular Frame Weaving, and needle felting in the Felted Bird class.

The October calendar has just been posted so check out what we have coming up!  We'd also love to hear what classes you'd like to take at SewGreen.  Whether it's a class we haven't taught in a while or something completely new!  Just send us an email and we'll keep it in mind for future classes.

Make a Bag with Josefina

 

Learn how to design and construct your own tote bag!  You can use fabrics from our Scrappy Land or bring some of your own if you wish.

 

Offered every Thursday in September - 6, 13, 20, & 27

Hand-spinning on a Spinning Wheel

 

Marcia is coming back to teach another yarn spinning class!  Please make sure to sign up ahead of time to ensure your spot.

Frame Weaving

 

Could fiber art be a good way to help insulate the home?  Well, either way it'll be a fun class and a chance to use up scrap yarn!

 

Offered over two Mondays, September 10, and 17

Crochet Triangle Shawl

 

Whether we like it or not summer will soon change to fall so let's get prepared with this pretty crochet shawl!

Saturday Kids' Club

Don't forget, Kids' Club now has special themes each week!  Some themes coming up are: Fun with Felt, Sewing Machine 101, Make a Bag, Button Mania, and Stuffed Animals.

Aneka with her string bag!  This class is coming up for the club on Saturday, September 8th from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Creative Friends!

Thank you all for sending us pictures of your projects with items purchased at SewGreen@Rochester.  We just love seeing all of your creative work!

We love this fabric that Marianne picked up from SewGreen to make this adorable little outfit for her granddaughter Ava!  

Bonnie made these super cute fabric covered button earrings!  She found a variety of fabrics from our Scrappy Land to make each pair unique!  These were made to help fund-raise for the Flower City Follies vintage jazz dance group here in Rochester. 

Linda is modeling a Scribble Scarf that Bernet made with yarn purchased from our shop.  It turned out beautifully!  Bernet mentioned that she took this class from Marcia who will be teaching Hand-spinning on a Spinning Wheel here at the shop!

Machine Buttonholes
Scared to tackle a project because of the buttonholes?  We'll show you how to get set up and get closure for your garment.  If you have a machine with a buttonhole foot, feel free to bring it along with your manual.  Or you can use our machines at the shop.

Working with commercial Patterns

You've bought a sewing pattern, and opened the package. What's with all the tissue paper inside? We can teach you what to do with your pattern materials, and how to adjust it to fit you just right. 
Students may benefit from taking our Measure Up! class first

Make a Bag with Josefina

Want a simple way of building up your machine-sewing skills? Join us for this class! We will provide the materials, and you will leave with a brand new tote bag! And don't forget to bring your new tote bag in on a Scrappy Saturday! You can fill it with scraps and yarn ends for just $5, and who knows? You might make another bag from the scraps!

Hand-spinning on a Spinning Wheel

Learn to make your own, unique hand-spun yarn on a spinning wheel! We’ll play with several types of prepared wool and discuss wheel maintenance, drafting, treadling, plying, and finishing techniques to make a balanced yarn. No previous experience needed.  If you have a wheel to bring to class, that's great--if not, you can borrow one of ours!

Make Do & Mend

Got a worn out zipper?  A hole in your favorite jeans?  A missing button?  A ripped seam?  Bring them in and we'll teach you how to fix all of these and more.  All by yourself!  Come learn basic mending skills with us!

11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. or 2:00 - 4:00 p.m.

Frame Weaving

Woven wall hangings are popular again!  Learn how weave and create a unique fiber art piece with frame weaving.
Attend both weekly sessions, or come as you are able. $10/2-hour class.

Sewing Machine 101/201

Make friends with a sewing machine in our shop, or bring yours from home. We will take you through the basics of machine operation and safety, and guide you toward sewing a project.

In Sewing Machine 201, build on the skills you've gained in Sewing Machine 101. Is there a sewing project that interests you, or that you want to complete? How can your newly-gained sewing machine skills help you achieve that goal? This is the place and time to learn!
These classes are great for ages 10 & up (or younger with an adult present).
Prerequisite: Sewing Machine 101

Offered Tuesday, September 18th

11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. or 4:00 - 6:00 p.m.

Offered Tuesday, September 25th

Working with Dress Forms

Learn how padding a dress form can help you put together outfits and understand the fit of your clothing.

Professional measurements will be included.

Crochet Triangle Shawl
Get ready for the cooler weather with a pretty crochet triangle shawl!  We'll show you the basics on how to get started with this project as well as how to make simple increases and optional tassels.
Offered Monday, September 24th, and October 1st
11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. or 3:30 - 5:30 p.m.

 

Serger 101/201

Sergers can be a little intimidating but they are great sewing tools once you understand how to use and adjust them to suit your project!  In the 101 class, learn the basics of threading and tension.  For Serger 201, you've learned the basics but want to go further!  Bring your serger, or sit down at the shop sergers.  If you bring your own, don't forget your serger's manual and all its feet, too!

2:00 - 4:00 p.m.

Scholarships are always available for each of our classes!

Thank you for your generous donations!  We accept donation deliveries on Tuesdays 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.  Fridays 11am to 2:00 p.m. and Saturdays 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

Remember...

Every Saturday is Scrappy Saturday! Our small scrappy bags stuffed with scraps and rolls of fabric and/or unmarked balls of yarn are only $1 all day (regularly $3 on weekdays). Bring your own grocery-sized tote and stuff it full for only $5 (regularly $10). Stop by and fill a bag this Saturday, and every Saturday!
