NEW STAFF AREA APPROVED FOR LOST PINES Due to overcrowding in the current Staff Area behind the dining hall, the Staff Area will be relocated to where Smith Campsite currently is. Using the picture above, you can see the location relative to the parking lots across the road from Lindsay Lodge (just off screen to the right). At the same time, Smith Campsite will move to the current Staff Area. These moves should be complete by Summer 2018 just in time for staff week. All staff cabins will be moved into the new area as well. 5 new cabins will be added this Spring giving us a a total of 10 4-person cabins and 3 8-person cabins. The goal is to add 5 more cabins each year until we reach 20 total. Long term plans include the addition of a new Staff Lounge & Bathhouse adjacent to the new Staff Area. The lounge will be approximately the same size as Lindsay Lodge, but will include shower facilities instead of a medical area. |

With Tonkawa Lodge providing the infrastructure, many guest from Sam Houston Area Council and Alamo Area Council attended as well. The highlight of the weekend was the camfire at T-bird Island where we showed the current millenial staff, just how a campfire should be run. Way to go Jack Gindler! A special edition pin (see left) designed by Ricky Dolifka is available for purchase from Tonkawa Lodge. Click below for pictures of the event. | | |

Help Wanted! The Council Camping Committee is looking for people to help out on special projects around camp. For example, there's a big push underway now to recruit more Camp Masters for Lost Pines for weekend duties of checking Troops in & out. A small group of Staff Association members could volunteer as a body and hang out & work together. Also, Organized Hog Hunting has been approved for the Griffith League Scout Ranch to control the feral hog population and raise funds. They're looking for adults to volunteer as Hunt Masters to coordinate & help out on Hog Hunting Weekends. And finally, the Living History Committee is looking for adult volunteers to help out at Summer Camp for Living History night. This is where the staff dress in period outfits and demonstrate how people lived in 19th Century Texas. They cover everything from Indians, Pioneers, Cowboys to Military. For more information for any of these opportunities, use the link below. |
