HEALTHY LUNCH BOX

Check out these great ideas to keep school (and office) lunch boxes healthy this year!

Veg(gie) Out

Talk to your kids about what vegetables they like and keep a supply on hand. Shop over the weekend and let them pick out what they would like for the coming week. You can even prep them in advance for a quick grab in the morning. They're not only good for lunch, but make a great after school snack too! Make it more fun by including healthy dipping options like salsa, guacmole and hummus.

Get Fruity

Berries, apples, oranges, kiwis, grapes... the list goes on. Healthy sugar along with filling fiber and delicious sweetness make fruit a perfect lunch box treat! Eat it whole, in a fruit salad or make fruit kebobs! Stay away from the added sugar in store bought fruit cups, apple sauce & fruit chews. All that artificial sweet stuff makes for a sugar high and crash, all before the day is through.

Meet Real Meat

Many deli meats have added ingredients that are not healthy. Read the label and look for low sodium products made with no nitrates or nitrites. Organic or non-GMO are always better choices. Stick with lean meats like chicken & turkey and add a little lettuce & tomato to the party!

Got Bread?

Breads you think are healthy may contain artificial ingredients and more sugar than you thought. (who needs sugar in bread?) Read the ingredients and look for whole grain and/or sporuted grain breads with no added sweeteners. Wraps can sometimes be even worse... read the labels before you buy!

Go Nuts!

If your school (or office) allows, nuts can be a great lunchtime snack. Protein, healthy fats & fiber all packed into a handful of scrumptious. Peanuts, walnuts, almonds, cashews and more can give you the energy you need to power through the rest of the day with focus. Look for low sodium or unsalted and, if you can find them, organic raw nuts are the best option.

Bottom Line... KEEP IT REAL!

Eating artificial and processed foods does not do a body, especially a growing body, any good. AND bringing lunch from home means a healthier meal and a healthier wallet since buying lunch often costs much more than brown baggin' it.
