Endless Updates: July 2022

We are celebrating 10 years at Endless!

In 2012 Endless was founded on the principle that technology and access to a personal computer can transform people’s lives. This is still our core belief. If you have been a friend and collaborator with us anywhere along our journey, thank you!

The latest blog post by CEO Rob McQueen covers all things Endless, from our humble start in 2012, to our global inspirational team and partners in 2022. Rob writes about our 10-year journey of learning, discovery, collaborations and impact.

A very quick overview: the evolution of Endless, 2012 – 2022

In 2012, Endless was launched with a celebratory leap by founder Matt Dalio. Endless was founded to make a positive impact on students and families in offline communities.

Since that humble start Endless continues to make a difference in many areas around the world. We have worked with communities in Brazil, Guatemala, Haiti, Mexico, Nepal, India, Kenya, South Africa, Indonesia, Nicaragua, Lebanon, the USA, and refugee camps in Jordan. The offline-first Endless operating system has been deployed globally, and we have developed a financing model to help make laptops more affordable and accessible to families. We have donated laptops and computers to those truly in-need, and in the USA with the start of the pandemic in 2020, we also transformed our organization into a nonprofit, becoming the Endless OS Foundation to better align our mission and impact.

In 2020, to support offline students in the USA we developed the Endless Key, both as a USB drive and more recently as an app to deliver learning resources for offline use on Chrome OS, Android and Windows devices. On the Endless OS front, we are working on the release of OS 5, bringing a refreshed desktop experience and an all-new app center to the OS our users love.

It's been an amazing journey, and there is plenty of work and many years ahead to finally bridge the Digital Divide collaboratively with our partners.

So how are we celebrating our 10-year anniversary at Endless?

Although our actual anniversary date was May 14th, we are celebrating throughout the year. To begin, we decided to reach out to all the amazing people we have worked with over the decade: our partners, employees new and old, and supporting advisers. All were invited to a call celebrating our collaborative work together as a community over the last decade. The turnout was amazing, and resulted in a spectacular two-hour call filled with inspirational stories, impactful achievements, and a lot of appreciation for some really great people.

Partners included: Common Sense Media, Fundación Alfredo Harp Helú, GuateStar, Hope for Haiti, Learning Equality, Moving Windmills Project, Teach For America, World Possible, and 49ers EDU.

Each call participant also submitted a video answering questions about their history with Endless, including a request to “describe Endless with one word”. The feedback was great and we are overwhelmed with so many moving videos. The graphic at the top of this email includes many of the words submitted, from "possibilities" to "empowerment", and of course "digital access and equity".

The Endless team also enjoyed a day out in the fresh air, away from our laptops. Because our team is located around the world in Europe, Asia, North and South America, we shared pictures of our day in our home countries. The bright orange Endless socks were obviously a global trend that day!

We Thank You!

Once again, if you have been a friend and collaborator with Endless anywhere along our journey so far, we want to thank you. The Digital Divide is too large and too urgent to tackle alone. Without partnerships this important work cannot be done.
