Welcome to this issue of our newsletter. As ever, we kick off with some news and updates about the project. This month also marks the release of the first chapter of our novel by Ella Shively, 'Why do the plovers fly away?', which you can read more of below. We are thrilled to feature an article by one of our collaborating artists, Heather Burton, which describes her relationship with the English coast, and the way this has influenced her work. Lastly, we hear from Ellie Strike, Local Engagement Officer who also recently became more involved in our communications team. Dive in and enjoy this month's Plover news! Why do the plovers fly away? |
'Mel turned and resumed her walk along the beach, savouring the soft, shushing sounds of the waves. The wind caught in her hair and teased the chestnut strands that curled out from beneath her knitted stocking cap. It was March in South Shields, and she'd be lucky if the temperature reached nine degrees. Still, Mel walked barefoot, enjoying the feeling of the coarse, pale sand beneath her feet. Her progress was slow–no need to be speedy when there were so many wee plants and shells to sketch. She'd brought a burlap bag along for collecting things.' Follow the link below to read on.... |

A love of literature and oceans |

Learn more about Ellie's role in Plover Rovers and her path into ocean science.
