Luftwaffe tropical visor cap was introduced in 1942 for wear of all ranks assigned to tropical climates. The design of this cap was based on Kriegsmarine Visor Cap with minor variations. Luftwaffe personal referred to the tropical visor cap as the 'Hermann Meyer' Cap after Hermann Göring's statement that if the industrial Ruhr region of Germany was ever bombed , you could call him Meyer. Although it has been quoted in several variations, the original quote was given by Resichsmarschall Hermann Göring in a speech to his Luftwaffe in September 1939, after France and Britain declared war and the industrial Ruhr area fell within range of their aircraft.
„Wenn auch nur ein feindliches Flugzeug unser Reichsgebiet überfliegt, will ich Meier heißen!“
(English: „No enemy bomber can reach the Ruhr. If one reaches the Ruhr, my name is not Goering. You may call me Meyer!“)
