Hello all you glorious subscribers and welcome to my April newsletter. After a bit of a false start, Spring has tried again and the weather is there. I spent a lovely Easter weekend in glorious sunshine at a rented house near Oxford. The wind was cool and the evenings chilly so my Stella Hoodie by Tilly and The Buttons did a great job of keeping me warm. It has already been the me made item that has had the most wear (apart from knickers!). |

I was really pleased with the finished hoodie, having tried to copy ready-to-wear examples of eyelets and a wide flat drawstring, using a pair of shoelaces to replicate the look. All the details are in my MingMakesMistakes post, which is my full review and experience with the pattern, and also links to another post describing my fitting process with toiles. I sewed it up using the overlocker, having gained some skills and confidence from the overlocker course at Guthrie&Ghani as described in last month's newsletter. |

I made another basic t-shirt using the same pattern from the overlocker workshop mentioned above, as this is something I could do with a few more of. A future project will be for a fitted sleeve t-shirt, possibly the Lark Tee by Grainline Studio with its many options, but in the meantime I was happy to get a couple of these sewn up quickly and easily. I used Guthrie&Ghani's Off White Basics Organic Cotton Jersey Fabric, which is good quality and opaque. I got a nice finish with a 2-needle coverstitch on the hems and to secure the neckband seam. |

I am currently sewing a third up in their Grey Tencel Modal Jersey Fabric. It is gorgeously soft and drapey, and having not sewn with this kind of fabric before I am interested in seeing how different the t-shirt will look and fit. The drapiness has its own challenges so I will report back next month on how I got on. If you're interested in a similar t-shirt pattern to this, someone on the Fold Line Facebook Group helpfully suggested the Kirsten Kimono Tee by Maria Denmark, which is free if you sign up to her newsletter. |
