INSIDE: Book 2 Revision Plan Revision Tips I've learned New Book: Meet my Main Character Would You like to Beta Read? #buzzword Reads |

Hey Friends! Who knew a broken foot could affect my writer life so much? Thankfully, I'm slowly recovering from my broken foot. I'm out of the boot and wearing an ankle brace with a sneaker now. I'm walking much more, but I'm still having pain, so it's a slow healing process. Despite this, I've been working hard on two projects this month. Check out the updates below. |
This month I finished my big picture revisions on book two of my Divine Witches duology. Don't forget, you can still grab your copy of book one, The Destined Divines on Amazon, Nook, Apple, Kobo, Scribd, and more. After reading it, anything I share about book two will make more sense. :-) Once I finished phase one of revisions, I sent my manuscript to my two wonderful critique partners. I recently received their feedback and have gathered all of their comments in one Word document. I then gathered their notes and put them into Notion with my own revision notes. |
Next, I made a phase 2 revision plan in Trello to keep track of what I need to do. I learned all of this from Jessica Brody's Writing Mastery Revision Course. In my February newsletter, I shared a little about my phase one revisions process and Trello board. If you missed it, check out my newsletter archive on my Members' page. |
I've learned so much from Jessica's course and it's helped me become more organized and less overwhelmed with revisions. She showed me how to break things down and focus on one thing at a time instead of jumping around the entire manuscript over and over. |
In my phase two revision plan, I'm concentrating more on scene level revisions. In her course, Jessica gives you a checklist of what each scene should have so you can review each scene and see if there's anything missing or anything you can improve on. She also shows you how to make the checklist in Trello for each of your scene cards. It's quick and easy. I even shared the simple process on my Instagram Story. |
Some questions on the list are: Does the scene have a goal and a conflict? Does the scene have a purpose? Does the scene have a shift? Does the scene have structure? Is the scene well balanced and paced? Does the scene have tension? And several more questions you should ask yourself about each scene to make sure every scene in your novels is strong and works well. If you'd like to check out Jessica's course, click on the button below. I'm not an affiliate or anything. I just highly recommend it if you struggle with revisions/editing. |

This month I've drafted 35k of my new #ownvoices Urban Fantasy book that I'm calling Project GPB for right now. The aesthetic to the right is of the main character Eleanor (Nori). She has Aniridia Syndrome, which causes her to be visually impaired, but she doesn't let it keep her down. |
She's into science and wants to become a geneticist to help those affected by Aniridia Syndrome. As a scientist, Nori doesn't believe in the supernatural, so when she witnesses her sister's murder by a grotesque creature and gets pulled into the supernatural part of our world, she's lost and unsure how to handle it. Have you ever read a book with a visually impaired main character? Let me know! I'd love to check out more books with visually impaired/blind characters. |

In April, during Camp NaNo, I plan to work on the revisions of book two. I truly hope to get this book in shape by May or June to send to beta readers. I plan to have a small group of beta readers. So if you're interested in being a beta reader, please fill out a short questionnaire by clicking on the button below. I will contact those chosen to beta read when the manuscript is revised and ready for them. For more info on book two, check out my Instagram. | | |
