PASTORAL Springtime greening initiates City Farm's sustainable grazing project. Pictured above, Ash and Clover contentedly ruminate after their first day of feasting on cover crop next to the Pergola. Assisted by students at Mariposa Education, we started moving them out of their corral to small paddocks surrounded by electric fence where they mow down the growth, fertilize the soil, and cut our expenses for feed. Before the ground is bared, they move on to another enclosure, allowing fast regrowth. Also known as rotational grazing, this crucial regenerative agricultural practice will provide increasing weed control and wool production. Watch a video of the fun leading up to this moment. |

SATURDAY WORK PARTIES GEARING UP |

Heightened farm activity, beautiful weather, and reduced COVID restrictions have led us to increase our volunteer opportunities to second and fourth Saturdays of the month. Join us from 9-12 on March 27 to get some air and exercise, enjoy spontaneous teamwork, learn new farming techniques, feed the sheep and chickens, and harvest some vegetables to take home. Above, March 13th volunteers transplant starts grown from seed in our greenhouse. |
