2019 Pygmalion Art Contest Winner Announced!

It was deja vu all over again!  Roberta Labaw was voted "People's Choice" for a second year in a row.  Her artwork, in the upper lefthand corner of the picture above, was the clear favorite.  Roberta also spent more time on her work than others, and actually produced some ten different images, before selecting her "Angry Birds" piece (or, at least, that's what we're calling it!).

This all occurred at the American Canyon Chamber of Commerce's Welcome Center, where we show our member's artwork on an ongoing basis.  In addition to the Art Contest, we also hosted the reception for our artists that have shown at the Center for the last six months.  We plan to host a reception at least semi-annually, to recognize our member artists as well as to update our members on what's happening (and it's fun to get together; drink wine and have some light nibbles!)

More Mosaic News

During July, we started our second panel (out of three).  We held our first Mosaic Party at the Chamber of Commerce, for some of their volunteers.  We also held our regular workshop at the Boys & Girls Club on July 20.  We are about one-third of the way through on that second panel.

We have more opportunities for you to be part of the art!  Saturday, August 17, from 10-4, we'll hold our regular  workshop at the Clubhouse.  We're also available for parties--just give us a call to make arrangements.  We're also looking at new venues, to give our community members more options.

We are still raising funds for the materials and supplies. We received major contributions from the Arts Council Napa Valley, City of American Canyon, and the AC Community Parks Foundation, not to mention the Arts Foundation itself!  You can donate here.

The Welcome Center is part of the Chamber of Commerce, located at 3860 Broadway (Hwy 29) in American Canyon.

Board of Directors Meeting

This is a new feature we're adding to the newsletter. A lot of business is conducted during the Board Meetings, and we also spend time planning upcoming events.  Members are always welcomed.  We generally meet the second Tuesday of the month, at the American Canyon Public Library Meeting Room.  Meetings start at 7pm.

In July, we took care of routine items (approval of the minutes and our financial report).  On the Mosaic, we confirmed our remaining summer schedule and talked about new locations.  We went over last minute planning for the Pygmalion Art Contest.  We agreed to host the Marketplace at the City's Tree Lighting Event (the Chamber won't be able to do it this year, and we weren't sure if we would have a location for our annual Holiday Boutique).  We are still looking to produce our Holiday Boutique, but there aren't a lot of good spaces available.

We also talked about the need to start planning earlier for Arts in April and discussed some new elements.  And we hadn't heard back from the Post Office on our offer to paint a mural on the new Post Office in American Canyon (which is very white!)

MEMBERSHIP NEWS

No new members this month, so we wanted to talk about another member benefit:  your own webpage!  If you don't have your own site, we can provide you with your own page (part of our overall website).  You can include a brief bio, some photos of your work, and contact info.  If you do have your own website, we'll include that link on our site.
