How to boost your energy
Now that January and February are out of the way and Spring is closer we can start to enjoy the outdoors a little bit more and boost our energy level just by following few easy tips:
Drink lots of fluid, at least two litres a day. Herbal teas, water, water and fruit. Caffeine and alcohol don't count I'm afraid and you should limit their intake: use coffee alternatives like NoCaf /cereal-based drink and have at least two dry (alcohol-free) days each week
- Wake up and smell the sunshine
Start your day welcoming the daylight in your bedroom, smell the fresh air and take a few deep breaths
After a good night's sleep have a glass of warm water with lemon before you eat or drink anything else - this is good for your tummy and also you get a dose of energising Vitamin C
Have a balanced diet eating fresh fruit and vegetables, avoid meat as much as possible, especially red meat, eating other sources of protein like fish, soya, pulses and nuts; limit your intake of carbohydrates and lean towards wholemeal foods; have healthy snacks to boost your energy and control hunger in between main meals; eat fruit, raisins and nuts, oatcakes or a small piece of parmesan are a good choice. If you are vegan take a vitamin B12 supplement to make sure you get enough iron
Just a brisk walk in the fresh air or some sunshine will energise you and also give you a good dose of vitamin D.
Probiotics are helpful to maintain energy throughout your day and especially beneficial to people suffering of IBS
According to Chinese medicine, the favoured time for sleep is before midnight. Try to go to bed around 10pm at least three to four times a week and notice the positive impact this habit can have on your energy levels. Try to avoid using electronic devices in the last hour before you go to bed.
Practice indoor, outdoor in the garden, in the woods or by the sea but mostly importantly strike a few poses every day to boost your energy and circulation, improve flexibility and encourage calm and stillness in the mind. Have your yoga mat ready in your bedroom and try one or three sun salutations in the morning followed by just a few minutes of silence or meditation.
