Miami & Tulsa

Untitled #4, Collage on paper, 2018

Greetings All!

I hope that you are well.

It has been a hectic few months since I left Accra for an artist fellowship in Tulsa.

My solo exhibition in Accra was well received. Quite frankly, I could not have mounted the show without the help of Tarek and Isshaq. Thank you both for being there for me through all the wahala. You can go to this link to read an Artsy article (on “The Stories I Tell Myself” exhibition) by Ayodeji Rotinwa: https://www.artsy.net/article/artsy-editorial-florine-demosthene-conjuring-history-black-heroines-creating-new

Secondly, I was honored to be able to participate in a panel discussion during the Neustadt Literary Festival at Oklahoma University.  This year’s winner of the prestigious Neustadt International Prize for Literature is Haitian-American writer, Edwidge Danticat. You can go to this link to view information and images on the festival and prize: https://www.neustadtprize.org/

And lastly, my artwork is featured alongside a poignant essay, “An Anatomy of Lostness” by Anna Badkhen in the November/December issue of World Literature Today. Do check it out by going to this link: https://www.worldliteraturetoday.org/2018/november/anatomy-lostness-anna-badkhen

Thank you all for your continued love and support.

Much love and hugs,

Florine
