Around the Neighborhood

Expect Brookside Parkway drainage upgrades to last until first week of June 2024, DPW says. The project stretches Brookside Avenue from Nowland St. to Rural St. Already new sidewalks have been poured. Expect traffic design changes to Brookside Parkway, as well.

Reports of night-time coyote sightings along Brookside Parkway. Coyotes are native to Indiana and found in all parts of the state, including urban areas, and are known to scavenge garbage and kill small pets. DNR provides coyote prevention techniques, such as closing garbage containers, feeding pets indoors, and bringing bird feeders inside at night.

IMPD will not proceed with deploying gunshot-detecting microphones. Many ShotSpotter devices were left in place at the end of the 2022 pilot study on the Near Eastside. More than $1 million dollars of federal funding allotted for the technology will be spent on Tasers. IMPD Chief Chris Bailey has asked for the removal of ShotSpotter devices from public property.

The Indianapolis Historic Preservation Commission decided unanimously to adopt the Church of the Holy Cross in the city's preservation plan. The Metropolitan Development Commission will hear the case before the preservation plan is formally adopted.
