RECORD BOOKS
In 4-H, record books are the means used to record events, projects created, offices held, etc. each year. They become a wonderful record of a child’s experiences over the years. There are pages that pertain to the current 4-H year (these are replaced each year) as well as permanent pages that are added to each year and are used to record 4-H data over the course of a child’s time in 4-H.
Again this year, the State 4-H office has said that record books are not officially required. However, it is encouraged that you try to fill out as much of the record book as you can so that you will remember in future years what was done. It’s easy to forget from year to year what projects children were in and what events they participated in.
Completed record books will be collected on Monday, August 16.
If your child is early on in their time in 4-H, you should consider starting to use the digital format which can be found on the Extension Racine County website. (Click on "4-H & Youth", then "4-H Family Info" and then "Forms and Documents.") You are more than welcome to continue to print out paper copies, if you prefer for the story and photos, etc. If your child is older and wishes to apply for any county or state experiences, awards, or the 4-H Ambassador program, they will need to fill out the paper form as they will need to turn in their record books as part of the application process, but be aware that some of the categories on the permanent pages have changed with the new digital format.
Record books are a wonderful way to record your 4-H year and remember your experiences.
