Issue #2

Inside: New WIP First Look, #PitchWars & More!

Who's ready for fall? I am! I love the colors, cozy sweatshirts, and of course, Halloween. Not only is it beautiful this time of year, but it's time for Preptober and then next month is NaNoWriMo! :) I'm currently working on plans for a new WIP so that I can write it during Nano. Keep reading to find out more about it. ;)

Pitch Wars

Not only have I sent out query letters for my YA Contemporary Fantasy, but I also submitted it to #PitchWars on September 25th. This is my second year submitting to Pitch Wars. When I look back at last year, I can see that my manuscript wasn't ready. I'm grateful for another chance to do Pitch Wars this year.

For those wondering, what is #PitchWars? It's a mentorship program. For more info on it, go to the Pitch Wars website www.pitchwars.org .

The mentors will announce their mentee selection on November 3rd, so I have an entire month to wait. I learned last year that I need a distraction and to avoid Twitter hashtags like the plague. LOL :) Seriously, for me and many others the #PWTeasers is excruciating to read. Some love the hashtag where mentors post teasers about the submissions they received, but for me, it causes too much anxiety. So I learned to mute the hashtag and move on. While I wait, I'm trying to stay busy and not think about it.

Have you submitted to Pitch Wars before? Did you submit this year? Connect with me on Twitter or Instagram and let me know. :)

Writing Endeavors

I've been in the query trenches for a month now. I've gotten one rejection so far. I plan to send out more query letters soon. To keep myself busy so I don't think about Pitch Wars or my queries I've sent out, I'm working on a new WIP. Below is the first aesthetic I've made for it. And you're the first to see it!

The working title is Eyes of Night. It could change, but for now, it works.

Some facts about my new WIP

Genre: YA Fantasy

Main Character: Adira

Side characters: Gryffith, Noor, Kian, Isa, Ekon, and Zandra

Magic System: Each mage has a unique eye color and certain abilities.

Status: Prepping for Nano

What inspired it?

One night after I finished reading a fantasy book, I was annoyed and honestly a little upset. I keep seeing more and more books with an antagonist with black eyes. For those who don't know or remember, I was born with a rare eye condition called Aniridia Syndrome which causes me not to have irises (the colored part of the eyes); hence I have black eyes. Seeing so many authors give their antagonists black eyes bothers me because it's stereotyping people with black eyes. So I started brainstorming on how I could educate and show others that antagonists don't need to have black eyes to be evil. I hope to show that a character (a person) can be different, and just because a person has black eyes doesn't mean he/she is evil/bad.

What's it about?

A group of seven mages must put aside their differences and work together to prove their innocence, and to save magic and their lives.

#PreptoberChallenge

This month I'm co-hosting a new Instagram photo challenge!

The #PreptoberChallenge is September 30th-October 6th. We designed to help people get in the writing and prepping zone for this year's NaNoWriMo. I'm super excited to see what everyone is working on, so come and join us!

We also host a bi-weekly challenge called #StorySnippetSaturday. For more info on it, check out my Instagram.

September Bookshelf

In September, I read five books and all were great. I especially enjoyed Seeker by Kim Chance and The 7 1/2 Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton.

If you haven't read any of these yet, check them out along with more books listed on my website that you might like to read.

This month I plan to concentrate more on writing, but I do have some books I want to read. I'm participating in one read along this month, and the book we're reading is Sky without Stars by Jessica Brody.
