YCL Celebrates Library Card Sign-up Month with Idina Menzel and Cara Mentzel |
September is Library Card Sign-up Month! York County Library joins libraries nationwide, along with award-winning actress and singer Idina Menzel (Frozen, Wicked) and her sister, author and educator Cara Mentzel, to remind everyone that one of the best places to find your voice is at the library. Libraries play a crucial role in the education and development of children, providing students with access to technology, media resources, and educational programs to succeed in the classroom, and offering people of all ages opportunities to pursue their dreams, explore new passions and interests, and find their voice! Borrow audiobooks, stream movies, enjoy virtual classes, and much more with a York County Library card! Sign up for a card this September and you'll get a free goodie bag with bookmarks, a pencil, a handheld fan, and more! We'll also have some fun "I Got My Library Card Today" stickers for children and parents. Visit yclibrary.org today to learn how to get your YCL Card, and learn more at ilovelibraries.org. Enjoy a visit with Judy Kurtz Goldman, award-winning author of the 2022 Katie Couric Media "Must-Read Book" Child: A Memoir. In Child, Judy, now 80, finally tells the story she didn’t think she had the right to tell — the story of her relationship with Mattie Culp, the black woman who worked for her family as a live-in maid and helped raise her — and the story of Mattie’s daughter, left behind to be raised by someone else. |

In Memoriam: Roberta Rainwater |
It is with great sadness that the staff of the York County Library shares the recent passing of our dear friend and coworker, Roberta Rainwater. Everyone who knew Roberta will remember her deep love of art and amazing artistic talent, as well as her tremendous kindness, dedication to her faith and church, and charming stories of her beloved dog, Shiloh. |
Even if you never had the pleasure of meeting her, you may have seen some of Roberta's beautiful artwork, either in the decorative painting she did for the pillar in the Main Library Children's Department, or in the intricately detailed, hand-drawn coloring sheets she created for various library programs. Please keep the YCL community and Roberta's family in your thoughts during this difficult time, and we invite you to pay tribute to Roberta by sharing your own fond memories of her with us on social media. You may also make a donation in Roberta's name to Joni and Friends or Samaritan’s Purse. |
