Welcome to another edition of Women and Money!

In This Issue

We talk a lot about goals in budget planning and financial wellness.  It doesn’t matter how big or small the goal, a well thought out plan is the easiest way to reach any goal we set out for ourselves.  Obstacles in that process come in many forms.

In this issue we touch on budgeting on a variable income (seasonal employment).    Something many in our region are all too familiar with, how to make seasonal income last through those cold winter months.  In some cases, the unexpected happens and one has to transition into living on a single income.  We have that covered too in this issue.

Those Holidays will soon be on our heels another goal buster when it comes to budget planning for some.  Check out the free 2019 printable Holiday Planning Guide to start getting that Yule log rolling. The kids are now back in school and it’s a great time to bring teaching money management into daily life as well, you’ll find a great app to help you parents out there start early on financial wellness with your children.  Add to that some great articles about women discussing what it’s like to work full time and be a mom along with a few more tips on taking control of one’s money and you have this month’s Women and Money newsletter.

We hope you enjoy and remember ‘if the plan doesn’t work change the plan not the goal.”

If this is your reality, it is important to save a large percentage of your income on good months to help make up for the bad ones. Here is one way to budget your variable income. It’s easy to overspend during the holiday season so using this app will help you to set a budget and keep track of what you’ve spent already, with the stats page also showing details such as gifts left to buy, left to wrap, and days to Christmas. As well as all this, you can protect your Xmas list with a password so if a member of your family or a friend is trying to snoop and see what you’ve got them; they won’t be able to find out. A really useful feature of this app is that it automatically archives your list on New Year’s Day each year, carrying over the people on your current list.

The 10 Best Ways Women Can Make Our Money Last In Retirement

By Kathryn Tuggle

"We’re going to live longer and make less over our lifetimes — it’s time to talk strategy about making our money last. We women don’t have it easy when it comes to retirement. It’s no surprise, then, that the majority of us—60 percent—are worried we’ll run out of money money if we live to 100, according to the Merrill Lynch’s recent Women & Financial Wellness study. Unfortunately, our fears are well-founded. Over the course of our careers, women stand to earn $1.1 million less than men. Take a minute and let that figure sink in.
