MARCH recap, News & more...

Happy Day my Friends!

This first week of April 2024 marks the end of the first quarter of the year. Can you believe it? Is it just me, or is time really speeding up? From my perspective, days come and go so quickly…

We've often heard that time is relative, felt differently depending on what we're doing. Perhaps you've experienced this too. For example, when we're having fun, time flies by, but during boring or monotonous activities, it seems to drag on endlessly. Personally, I often find myself wondering where the time has gone – one moment it's Monday, and the next it's Friday. Could it be that my perception of time is influenced by the busyness of life – managing ministry, studies, writing, family, and household chores? Before we dive further, I'd love to hear if you've experienced something similar. Drop me a message and share your perspective.

As my mind was puzzled with the concept of time, I decided to check the internet and find out if other people are experiencing the sensation of time speeding up. Indeed, I discovered that many others also feel time accelerating, especially as they age. WHAT!!! So, could it be that the sensation I am experiencing with time is a result of AGING apart from the busyness of life? As I approach my 50th birthday this year, this topic is certainly worth exploring. As an advocate for longevity and the myriad of things we can choose to do to have a fruitful, productive, healthy life, this insight gives room for some research and a topic for a future blog. Meanwhile, as I do my own research, check out the blog below published by the Harvard Graduate School of Arts and Science regarding this specific topic.

Before I sign off, let's take a moment to celebrate our March journey. As mentioned in the previous newsletter, during March, I was working on the final hurdle to complete the nutrition certification. I'm thrilled to announce that I passed the final exam, becoming a NASM Certified Nutrition Coach. With each certification, I'm better equipped to guide you on your wellness journey, whether it's maximizing physical performance, starting or maintaining an active life, or making healthy lifestyle choices.

Looking ahead, I'll be developing a Corrective Exercise Program, initially offered in person and later expanding to virtual platforms. Keep an eye out for updates on this exciting new venture in next month's newsletter.

I invite you to continue reading this newsletter with interesting blogs and articles. Remember, your feedback guides our journey forward. If there's a topic close to your heart that you'd like me to explore, don't hesitate to
reach out.

With gratitude, Coach Edna

Empower Yourself Post:

No, It's Not Just You:

Why Time "Speed Up" as We Get Older

The blog by Rory Maizels explores the intriguing concept of subjective time perception versus objective time measurement, particularly as individuals age. The blog presents Professor Adrian Bejan's fascinating hypothesis, rooted in the physics of neural signal processing. It suggests that as we grow older, the rate at which our brains process visual information slows down, leading to the sensation of time passing more quickly. You can find the original paper in the linked article as well as in this newsletter, in the Health Science section below

Health Science: Why the Days Seem Shorter as We Get Older

In this paper, published in the journal European Review, Duke University professor Adrian Bejan explains the physics behind the changing perception of time and elucidates why time seems to accelerate as we age. According to the theory, this temporal discrepancy arises from the progressively slower speed at which images are acquired and processed by the aging human brain. While Bejan's theory provides a compelling explanation, further experimental research is required to fully comprehend this phenomenon and its underlying mechanisms. For those with a scientific inclination, I hope you find the reading intriguing and enjoyable. Paper linked here.
