October 2023: Volume 1, Issue 2

🪴 Linda's Letter 🔭

It has been another amazing month for Linda's Lab! In September I was interviewed by NBC Washington and by PBS News Weekend! I got to see two news studios and learn how they run. Did you know TV cameras are robotic now? So cool!

My Book Launch Party at the Children's Science Center was a dream come true. THANK YOU to everyone who came to support my goal of improving science education! We've sold almost 500 copies of "Linda and the Mysterious Footprints" and I just can't believe it!

We gave my website a major update and added some really exciting products to Linda's Lab! Check out my new Science Shop - it's everything I've always wanted as a kid who loves science!

Be brave and dream big!

What can YOU do

to reduce your carbon footprint?

WASH CLOTHES IN COLD WATER!

Washing your laundry in cold water saves you money and helps save the planet! About 90% of the energy your washing machine uses goes to heating the water. Washing in cold water instead can save you $200 a year and reduces your carbon footprint. And as a bonus, your clothes will last longer, stay brighter, and shrink less! Wow!

YOU can make a difference!

🐢 Turtle Talk 🐢

What do Eastern Box Turtles Eat?

Darwin's favorite food is shrimp, but what do most Eastern Box Turtles eat? Box Turtles are omnivores, meaning they will eat almost anything! As adults, they mostly eat plant material, like seeds, fruits, roots, fungi, and grasses. And if "fungi" sounds gross to you, remember that humans eat it too! Yay for mushrooms!

You can invite Linda and Darwin to visit your school, library, community center, or bookstore! To request an author read aloud or speaker event, send an email to events@lindaslab.org.

Are puzzles good for your BRAIN? Yes! Doing a puzzle helps your brain work faster and improves your short term memory. It reinforces connections between your brain cells!

Studies have shown that puzzles improve visual-spatial reasoning and problem-solving skills too, and even reduce the risk of developing dimentia!

Puzzles increase your body's production of dopamine, a chemical that regulates mood. Dopamine is released every time we feel successful when solving a puzzle. So puzzles literally make us feel happy!
