Launch of the Sustainability Pulse Report

UNGCMYB recently launched the Malaysia Businesses Sustainability Pulse Report 2022, a 6-month multi-partner initiative led by UNGCMYB, in collaboration with Bursa Malaysia, MATRADE, MDEC, Axiata, HSBC Amanah, Sarawak Energy, Tata Consultancy Services Malaysia, and Nottingham University Business School. The report aims to gain collective insights on the approach of businesses towards sustainability issues to further close the gap in making private sector sustainability data more available.

SME Sustainability eLearning Course Convocation

We held the convocation for the first cohort of participants of the SME Sustainability e-Learning Programme, a sustainability eLearning course co-developed by UNGCMYB and Taylor's University. UNGCMYB Sustainability Performance Awards 2022 is now open for nomination!

The Sustainability Performance Awards programme was initiated by UNGCMYB to recognise the continuous efforts of all its participants and to inspire companies of all sizes to make sustainability an integral part of their business strategies. Taking financial action for the SDGs

In this 30-minute e-learning course presented by the UN Global Compact Academy and the CFO Coalition for the SDGs, learn about four principles that CFOs can implement to help them build long-term sustainable value through strategic and financial integration of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This course is designed for CFOs as well as practitioners across your organization who would like to get equipped to talk to their CFOs about corporate sustainability.

MIHAS 2022: Standard Chartered Sustainability Conference: Halal Industry Driving Sustainability

In collaboration with Standard Chartered at MIHAS 2022, we held three panel sessions titled Converging ESG and Halal practices for a sustainable future, Growth opportunities for SMEs via ESG adoption, and Women Leadership in the global Halal industry. The conference included a presentation on UNGCMYB’s SME ACCESS platform by our Director of Programs, Shanta Helena Dwarkasing. We hope these sessions have provided you with more knowledge and insight on the best practices to elevate ESG within the Halal industry in accordance with the Sustainable Development Goals.

MPC Certified Sustainability Executive Programme: Module 1 & 2

We held the MPC Certified Sustainability Executive Module at The Pullman Hotel this month. We hope the course has helped participants to design and implement a successful Sustainability Strategy Blueprint, after participating in the modules Implementing & Delivering Sustainability Value, Reporting on Impact & Materiality Matrix, Stakeholder Management & a Whole Organisation Approach, Climate Change & Anti-Corruption & Human Rights.

Sustainability 101: Johor SMEs in advancing the UN SDGs

We would like to thank the JCI Johor Bahru Entrepreneur member organizations for participating in the Sustainability 101: Johor SMEs in Advancing the UN SDGs session last week. We would also extend our thanks to representatives from Ditrolic Energy Group and Alliance Bank Malaysia Berhad for presenting their briefing on The Importance of SMEs Transition to ESG. We hope this session will help enable more companies and SMEs to obtain the resources needed to move from business-as-usual to business-with-purpose, and obtained a better understanding of business sustainability to acquire the knowledge of transitioning from business-as-usual to business-with-purpose to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

ZeroC Demo Session

We held a demo session on the ZeroC tool, where we walked through on how to utilize and navigate through the dashboard. A collaboration between UNGCMYB and TCS Malaysia formed the ZeroC tool, which is an emission management platform that helps businesses measure their carbon emissions and reduce their carbon footprint. The tool has been built based on International Energy Agency (IEA) and Malaysian Emission Calculation Factors. Monitor your carbon emission with a one-stop dashboard and extend it to your ecosystem to drive a low-carbon supply chain. The tool has been built based on International Energy Agency (IEA) and Malaysian Emission Calculation Factors, ensuring the entire process is digitized, automation enabled and made real-time with pre-established configurations, roles and accesses.

UNGC Academy Awareness Session

We held an awareness session on the Academy, UN Global Compact’s leading-edge learning platform that provides business leaders and practitioners with the skills, knowledge and resources needed to quickly implement the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact and the Sustainable Development Goals. We hope participants can now leverage our e-learning platform and its offerings in their sustainability journey.

ACCESS Workshop 1 & 2

We held the Action Centre for Sustainable SMEs (ACCESS) Workshops 1 & 2 where we explored topics Sustainability Value & Stakeholders, and Sustainability Strategy Parameters as the beginning steps to developing an implementable sustainability strategy plan.

Anti-Corruption Collective Action Workshop Sabah

We held the Anti-Corruption Collective Action Workshop in Shangri La Hotel, Tanjung Aru this week. The workshop educated business leaders on the corruption landscape in Malaysia, identified risks and threats to integrity of business, held discussions on Collective Action, and guided companies to take action to increase trust, strengthen their reputations and reap further business opportunities. We hope participants are now able to take forward movement in achieving Sustainable Development Goal 16: Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions.

Bursa Malaysia securities has enhanced sustainability requirements in the listing requirements on the Main Market and ACE Market in efforts to elevate sustainability practices. The exchange holding company hopes to propel listen issuers to adopting international best practices, which include common sustainability indicators, sustainability targets and climate-changed related disclosures in corporate annual reports.

Tengku Zafrul: Malaysia on the right track towards sustainability by 2050

Having 44 out of 54 Sustainable and Responsible Investment Funds (SRI) being approved by the Securities Commission Malaysia (SC) within two years indicates our nation is on the right track towards sustainability by 2050. Minister of Finance Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz said the government is committed to implement development projects and programmes that prioritise environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles, in line with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He encourages companies to practice ESG elements, open up opportunities and access to financing related to sustainability and investment, and receive incentives for ESG-focused programmes, in line with the empowerment of the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP).
