Showing Up with a Decided Heart:
One of our clients, Bill, confided to us recently how anxious and crabby he felt daily. He snapped at his kids and wife. He would get on calls at work and needlessly argue and criticize his teammates. As he put it, “I am not leaving people better than I find them. If anything, I am leaving bodies in my wake.”
We asked him one simple question. “How do you start your mornings?”
His eyes grew wide, and as he started to speak; we could see his “aha moment” unveiling itself before our eyes.
“Oh my goodness. Why have I never thought of this? I start by hitting the snooze button until I know I am going to have to rush. I take the fastest shower ever while listening to the news. I continue to listen to the news as I barely chew my breakfast and slosh down some coffee, and then I start in on meetings. If anyone crosses my path as I am rushing, I feel annoyed and agitated.”
Sound familiar, anyone?
So, we asked him, “Bill, how would you like your mornings to look and feel?”
“If I really got to bed on time, I would love to get up and have a full 90 minutes before I go to work. I would be so relaxed if I sat outside with my breakfast and coffee, and listened to an inspirational podcast or read a book that helped me grow. The news just makes me anxious. I think I will limit that to catching up with headlines at lunch. I will make sure that I take a second and actually smile and greet my wife and kids.”
He smiled and shook his head. “Why have I never thought of this before? Is it really this simple?”
Yes, Bill. Yes, it is. Living with a decided heart is simple, but not easy. That is why we are always here for you! How will you fill your decided heart intentionally today?
This month’s masterclass, we will be examining our current morning and evening routines and bringing them into alignment with our Decided Hearts, so we can fill up how we want to show up!
