This week I have a recommendation to make - Watch Turning Point: The Bomb and the Cold War | Netflix Official Site   I am passionate about history and geopolitics. A lot of my spare time goes on reading books and watching movies mostly about what happened from the 1st WW, besides tourism to relevant and historical places. I find fascinating to learning and understanding why and how historical leaders as Churchill, Hitler, Lenin, Stalin, JFK, Gorbachev, Reagan and Bush made decisions, and what was the historical context of each period.   The recommended Netflix show takes us in a trip across the past century, and very elegantly helps to educate what was happening around all the key moments of our history. Nazism, 2nd WW, communism, nuclear bomb, cold war, the rising of intelligence agencies, glasnost, Ukraine and Russia war. Regardless of each one´s opinions and personal judgment of past decisions, there is nothing better than learning how facts evolved and the links between them. Education about the past enables better assessment and decisions in the future. This is true to our leaders; it should be as true to ourselves and our children.   History continues to unfold in front of our eyes, with catastrophic events in the Middle East and on the eastern Europe. As a civilization we have crossed several moments of great danger to our existence, as the show explains. While we can do little to change the current situations, I believe we could do much more to prepare the future generation, and learning from the past is a wise way to do so. #history #leadership #future #education #netflix

In today's hyperconnected world, our inability to be present has emerged as a pervasive challenge, profoundly impacting both personal and professional relationships. Despite being physically present in various situations, our minds often wander, consumed by an incessant stream of distractions.   In personal relationships, this lack of presence manifests in fragmented interactions and diminished intimacy. Instead of savoring moments with loved ones, we're preoccupied with checking notifications or mentally rehearsing our to-do lists. This detachment erodes the foundation of trust and understanding, leaving relationships feeling shallow and unfulfilling. Genuine connection is sacrificed at the altar of digital distraction, leading to feelings of loneliness and isolation even amidst companionship.   Similarly, in the professional sphere, our inability to be present undermines collaboration, stifles creativity, and impedes productivity. Meetings devolve into unproductive exchanges, with participants more focused on their smartphones than on contributing meaningfully. Emails are hastily skimmed, leading to misunderstandings and errors, while deadlines loom large as our attention remains divided.   Moreover, our failure to be present hampers our ability to truly listen and empathize, crucial skills for effective communication and leadership. Without genuine engagement, trust erodes, teamwork suffers, and innovation stagnates, hindering organizational success.   To address this pervasive issue, individuals should cultivate mindfulness and discipline in their daily lives. By consciously setting aside distractions and focusing on the present moment, we can nurture deeper connections in our personal relationships and enhance productivity and collaboration in our professional endeavors. Only by reclaiming our presence can we truly thrive in both spheres of life, fostering fulfilling relationships and achieving meaningful success. #bepresent #presence #relationships #leadership #digital

The other day I was having a chat with a friend about humility and leadership, and the sweet spot where humility, good leadership and right and fair acknowledgement of yours and other´s roles are fairly achieved. This reminded me of an excellent post that I´ve read few weeks ago, and which gives good tips on this matter: Beware the Risks of Too Much Humility Humility is a virtue in leadership—but being too humble can backfire. Here are three ways humility can undermine your leadership:   1. You may be perceived as indecisive. Democratizing every decision-making process can be misconstrued as a reluctance to take a stand, or a lack of conviction in your strategic vision. Don’t defer to consensus all the time. Instead, recognize that true humility isn’t about forfeiting your authority—it’s about confidently wielding it when you have to.   2. You may hinder your own career advancement. Deflecting praise or funneling all the credit down to your team can erase your own role in your team’s achievements. Dual promotion, in which you compliment a colleague, peer, or team while also sharing your own personal accomplishments, can be a powerful way to walk the line between humility and confidence.   3. You may be limiting your team’s development. If you worry that delegating work to employees could be seen as oppressive or demotivating, you may actually be depriving them of opportunities to learn and grow. Amid Uncertainty, Communicate with Intention Times of uncertainty or tension are ripe for miscommunication. To avoid making things worse, you need to be especially thoughtful about how you communicate with your team. Here are some common mistakes to avoid — and what to do instead.   Focusing too much on the future. While you need to direct your team’s attention to the road ahead, don’t forget to recognize small wins along the way. Set aside time in your one-on-ones and team meetings to discuss what went particularly well over the past week, month, or quarter.   Failing to provide context. You can’t always share everything you know with your team. But you can make yourself available, be transparent, and communicate frequently with them. Remember, your silence speaks volumes, especially when the future feels up in the air.   Highlighting only successes and ignoring challenges. Focusing only on your team’s achievements might make them feel better, but this can send the message that the path to success is always error-free. The Right Way to Raise a Difficult Issue with Your Boss Raising a potentially emotional topic to your manager can be hard, especially if you’re uncertain of how they might respond. Whether you’re experiencing difficulties with a colleague, health issues, or feeling burned out, here’s some ideas of how to raise the issue with your boss in your next one-on-one.   First, consider whether your manager can actually help you, and what kind of support you might be asking for. If this issue isn’t something your boss can help you address, perhaps they’re not the right person to discuss it with.   Once you’ve decided to share your issue with your boss, write down and practice your talking points. Consider their possible responses and plan for them. You might also let them know in advance that you want to bring up something sensitive in your next check-in.   Next, initiate the conversation with grace. Positive body language like smiling and soft eye contact can help you establish a warm, trusting mood. Then, lay out your talking points. If you’ve presented an issue that needs to be resolved, come to the meeting with possible solutions already in mind.   Finally, demonstrate composure and a willingness to adapt. Listen attentively to your manager’s responses. If they suggest revisions to your proposed solution, be willing to adapt and make reasonable compromises. End the meeting by thanking them for their support and verifying any next steps. Lo hemos hecho en la esclerosis multiple, en la atrofia muscular espinal, y estamos muy comprometidos en hacerlo también en otras patologías, como la #ELA, la #ataxia de #Friedreich y el #alzheimer. De la mano con las sociedades científicas, con grupos de pacientes y con miembros del gobierno, siempre por lo mejor a los pacientes.

This week we had a serious conversation at home, with our two kids, and it was about the video below. We asked them to watch the short movie and tell us their conclusions. Spot on. https://lnkd.in/d__qjcpm   Both Luigi and Juju got the first take away - never ever send any intimate picture or video of themselves through any digital media. More, don´t even trust if the request comes from someone they know, like one of their parents. Don´t send, period. Unfortunately, in today´s world not sharing anything is not enough anymore. The malicious use of AI and the deep fake bring horror and shame to kids, by the distribution of fake images of their bodies. Sad reality.   It bridges to the second, and perhaps the most relevant message - please, ask for help. If anything is happening and they feel sad, ashamed, isolated, bullied, please let someone know. Whoever is closer, whoever they trust… dad, mom, teacher, it doesn´t matter. Ask for help. A little over 14% of students in high school consider suicide and approximately 7% of them attempt suicide. Students that are bullied are around 2 to 9 times more likely to consider suicide than non-victims.   As our days get busier and many of us never feel totally disconnect from work, who can say that has never felt “relieved” by having some spare time while his/her kid was enjoying some inoffensive videos at one of these social media channels. That´s not the point. The point is how we prepare them for what they are watching. In my opinion, here is where our responsibility hits its core. Nothing will ever win the attention, the caring and the warming welcome to a trustful and open conversation between a parent and his/her child.
