Monday Movies: Sharing inspiration & information Don't let this image fool you, I haven't gone that old school! I did have fun playing around with this vintage Super 8 from my old camera collection, but my weekly videos go straight to social media from my iPhone. Where does an artist's inspiration come from? I can't speak for anyone else, but most my artwork has multiple sources of inspiration. Often it begins with an experience out in nature—birding, hiking or maybe kayaking. Add to that a recently discovered material such as a new paper or medium. Perhaps I'm working on a specific theme for a gallery or upcoming event. Even if part of a series, each piece will have its own origins and story. Recently, I've been discussing this topic weekly in my "Monday Movie" videos and sharing them on social media. A quick 5-10 minutes long, they touch on works in progress, demonstrations, product reviews, and interviews. I'm going on a field trip this week for episode 10, you won't want to miss it! Thank you to everyone who is sharing them, it really helps! Look for a video each Monday posted on Facebook and Instagram and YouTube |

Midwest friends, you can see my art in person! My husband, furniture designer Sandhill Bill of Sandhill Designs, coordinated an annual art studio tour in South Central Wisconsin from 2000 until we relocated to Western New York in 2015. The event, Earth Wood & Fire, is now under the auspices of the Cambridge Arts Council and continues to flourish drawing loyal attendees from across the Midwest. Bill has been asked to return to the tour as a guest artist for this year's 20th Anniversary. I am honored to be invited to exhibit, too. I'm especially excited to reconnect with many Wisconsin friends who have not yet seen my work in person. We will be guests of EW&F co-founder, Mark Skudlarek of Cambridge Wood Fired Pottery. Our work will be on display October 26 and 27th 10-5pm. Click here for maps and tour information, or I'm happy to snail-mail you a brochure upon request. |

Fresh off the easel: large scale Sandhill Cranes I've been working on pieces for our show at the Crary Art Gallery in Warren, PA, next April. I really want to up my game for this event, another collaboration with Sandhill Bill. I ordered a giant roll of extra-smooth canvas for a super-fine surface to use with charcoal. Other than working on murals, I've never done such large drawings. It was rather intimidating cutting the 15' roll down to size, but once it was taped off and on my easel it was smooth sailing. At 54" x 35", it was too large for my upstairs studio, so I opened up the garage doors and worked in the unseasonably cool late August air. Next up: Great Blue Heron rookery—same size— I hope the comfortable weather holds! |

Live art demonstrations at Painted Finch Gallery If you haven't visited Corry, Pennsylvania during their First Friday events, you are missing out! Each month there is a different theme … Sept. 6th is their Art Walk. That little town can really turn out and have some fun. Thanks to Wendy Neckers at Painted Finch for inviting me to return to their First Friday event last month to demonstrate my cut paper techniques. For that Wine Walk theme, I also created a series of small works to celebrate the area's rich wine-making heritage. Cheers! P.S. Feel free to forward this email to anyone who might enjoy it! |
