Micro-manufacturing in the Marinship |
Micromanufacturing is the manufacturing of products in small quantities using small manufacturing facilities. Don't believe it when you hear, "nothing is made in the Marinship." Meet 3rd Stone Design, a new addition to the Marinship ecosystem. Founded by Sausalito resident Robert Miros who currently serves as CEO, the company specializes in design, invention, prototyping and small batch fabrication of global medical devices, renewable energy systems and socially conscious consumer products. Portable thermo-electric cooling units produced by 3rd Stone Design facilitate reliable vaccine delivery in underserved populations that would otherwise face significant challenges in meeting their vaccine needs. In 2020 they were awarded the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Grand Challenges Exploration Award. |

Meet EmmaRepurposing locally-sourced sails into new bags! |
Emma Casey is a local Sausalito resident who has a passion for sailing and for our historic Marinship waterfront. After college she spent 7 years as a crew member sailing around the world. Shortly after she landed she decided to leverage her years at sea into a new business, Landfall Leatherworks, Emma repurposes used sails, otherwise destined to become landfill, into new bags. She personally crafts very bag she sells in her Marinship shop. Another example of sustainability at Sausalito's waterfront. Check out Emma's website here. |

First Annual Boat Show A thriving working waterfront needs a boat show. With the help of Mitch Perkins and courtesy of Clipper Yacht Harbor and the Petersen family, Sausalito's first boat show was successful beyond expectations. . |
Yacht brokers featured a variety of sailboats and power boats for sale. The city receives a portion of sales tax for any boat that is sold in Sausalito by a Sausalito yacht broker. |
SWWC shared a booth with Call of the Sea and joined List Marine, Canvas Works, H&M Marine Services and many others with booths at the boat show. Below is a Navisyo houseboat at the show. Navisyo has a demonstration boat at Sausalito Yacht Harbor. More info HERE. |

And what boat show would be complete without a dunk tank? |

ICB Artists at WorkOn the same weekend as the boat show, ICB had another Artists at Work event. This event, held twice a year, provides a glimpse of the special artists at Sausalito's Working Waterfront. Below are two of those artists, Delisa Sage and Louise Victor, in their studios. In other news, eleven ICB artists have been selected to exhibit work in The de Young Open 2023, Sept 30, 2023 - Jan 7, 2024. More info here. The next event at ICB is Winter Open Studios, Dec 1-3. |

The Sausalito Working Waterfront Coalition is a non-profit 501(c)4 whose mission is to advocate for the maritime services, light industry, artists and educators that together form the Marinship ecosystem. This ecosystem provides good jobs, hands-on education with apprenticeships, tax revenue to the city and a link with our historic cultural heritage. SWWC is an all-volunteer group that has a significant track record of achievement with very limited resources, Some highlights: We helped two City Council members in the last election who are willing to advocate and protect the Marinship. We successfully participated in the Housing Element process to advocate for housing in the Marinship - located away from boatyards and industrial areas. We gathered over 1200 signatures supporting an Open Letter to City Council to protect and improve the Marinship. We produced a 60 minute documentary to highlight the working waterfront. We hosted a Round Table Expert Panel Discussion on Gentrification of Working Waterfronts. We partnered with the National Working Waterfront Network We regularly participate and support a wide variety of community events.
SWWC appreciates your support in the form of donations: donate with PAYPAL on our website homepage. Or mail a check to: Sausalito Working Waterfront Coalition 150 Harbor Drive #1631 Sausalito, CA 94965 (as a 501c4 donations are not tax deductible) |
