MIND-BODY-FOOD
Nourish your head to heart to the soles of your feet

Spring Issue 2023

Mind-Body-Food is my new baby. As all babies do, it will grow. My inspiration for it came from a newsletter called, ‘Brain Food’ and it has become a reliable simple pleasure. It’s clever, clear, creative and kind. It feeds me. Now it’s my turn to feed you.

I love to write. Always have. I love to educate people. I love to connect people to information that is full of mindful practicality and heart. This newsletter came about to achieve just that. I want to reach people everywhere and share useful ideas that will nourish you head to heart to the soles of the feet. My vision is to spread positive practices and ideas that relate to all human beings who are trying to make better sense of things in a complicated world.  My hope is that you feel well fed, and there’s no dishes left in your sink or mine.

Today's Bite: “Joy is the spice of life."

Ask Yourself: How do I bring joy into my life?

My sister and I are very close. Our relationship is a priority. We bring each other so much joy by scheduling video calls every week, sending a message to one another every morning and sending tidbits of text throughout the day. This is our joy --- listening without judging, being honest with kindness, laughing without any worry, and loving each other unconditionally.

Choose one simple thing that makes you feel happy. Don’t wait. DO IT!

What's Feeding You?

One of our biggest challenges is that we are often comfortable and caught in a cocoon, and it feels so familiar that we do not even notice that it is feeding us anxiety and judgment.  This haze can be so heavy that it blocks our clarity and calm, our gratitude and wonder, our love and wisdom, and we may not see the value or need to take a step in another direction.  Meditation can awaken us from this daze, open the mind and frees our heart, and then our perspective changes, allowing a new space to forge a new path.

Kind Calories: “People who engage in random acts of kindness may not fully recognize the impact of their behavior on others.” https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/kindness-can-have-unexpectedly-positive-consequences/

Acts of kindness can make the world a happier place for everyone. They can boost immunity, feelings of confidence, being in control, happiness and optimism. They may also encourage others to repeat the good deeds they've experienced themselves – contributing to a more positive connection with their family members and community.

Please don't underestimate how others value these acts. “Kindness can be contagious” – start spreading it!

What will be your act of kindness today?

Menu Choices: We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit. – Aristotle

Every time we make a choice, we are either feeding the mind and body or depleting them. Like food, the words and actions we choose have the power to hurt or heal. Just as we cannot recover the stones we’ve thrown, we can’t take back the words we’ve spoken or the actions we’ve taken.

Over many years, I’ve worked with mindful attention to learn how to make choices that project positivity, sensitivity, understanding, and bring about connection, comfort and healing. I believe this is the driving force behind my life’s mission, and it appears in my family relationships, in my friendships, and relationships with colleagues and clients.

I was not always this way; I had to work hard to undo many learned behaviors and habits that could be characterized as impulsive and reactive and were damaging to myself and others. I wanted to be better, feel better, and do better. Slowly but surely, it happened. It can happen to you too.

What is the one behavior or habit would you like to change? Change your life, one habit at a time

My hope is that you feel well fed,

and there’s no dishes left in your sink or mine.
