behind the scenes

from the studio and the home

Hi ya'll!!! First, just let me say thank you for letting me send emails :) This is something I had been thinking of doing for a while but always wondered who would even read it. So thank you for the time. I hope your January has been off to a nice and steady start! I kind of like the thought of 'new year's resolutions' to just be the seeds of intention we plant for the year with the spring being the time when life really starts anew.

from the studio

January was a month of transitions in the studio. I have spent a lot of time on the backend side of things formulating a plan for what's ahead. ...and also, everyone's favorite....tax season. This is the first year I will be filing as a business, so wish me luck!

I loved being able to get the second edition of 'river goddess' in resin patinated and mounted. I had never considered using a leather-like texture of granite before but once I heard it mentioned and it got in my head, I became kind of obsessed with making it a reality. She is available for purchase :) Send me a message with the link below if you are interested.

Also in January, for the first time in many moons, I did some drawings and painting. After listening to some different podcasts (one being Creating More- which I was recently interviewed for!) I felt led to pull from the creative wells I would visit when I was younger.

It felt so revitalizing to interact with things that I love so much but aren't really apart of my day to day studio practice...like the trees and flowers! (haven't quite gotten in to sculpting them yet) There was one day that was close to 70 degrees and I just could not stand to be inside.

This got me outside and into drawing of the trees close to the house. It felt like a beautiful meditation on this one little part of nature I was fortunate to be around without going far at all.

It felt so good to spend an afternoon drawing that it kinda got my hands itching to paint again. I decided to make use of the feeling and had the best time with some freesia blooms drawing! Wanted to get the motor running before picking up my brushes again.

I really like how they came out and hope to make it a running series throughout the year. They measure 5x7 and are available for $45.

(i think if you click on the photos they will expand, you'll have to let me know)

**fun fact** Did you know that freesia is seen as a symbol of trust in many cultures and is also used a sign for friendship? I didn't plan it out this way, but it does seem fitting for it to be the first to be in this email series.

from the home

Is it wrong to say I am waiting for spring? I just love spending time working in the garden and yard during the warm months. I'm kind of one that always has there hands into something, be it clay or the actual dirt outside.

Despite it being one of the grayest months of the year, we did travel to the High Museum in Atlanta for the last weekend of the Rodin exhibit. I loved being able to see his larger works in such a close setting!

Seeing the portrait pairing of 'Bruno Cherie" by Carpeaux was such sweet surprise. I love when I can get up close and personal with work like this.

I definitely recommend a trip to the museum! They have a stunning collection of Impressionist works. So many Pissaro paintings and quite a few by Monet.

January was also a month of delicious meals. To be fair, we always eat well. But we made so many things from scratch and, I think for me, the biggest being a roasted chicken. I know to some it's child's play or whatever, "everyone can do that" but was a big deal and it was DELICIOUS. Can't wait to do it again soon!

If people are interested, maybe I can share a favorite meal of the month? A lot of things are just a riff on a few pinterest recipes (if we try something new) so I can just leave the link like the one below...maybe you try it maybe you don't...But about once a week I have made a play off of this yummy warm kale/sweet potato/quinoa salad. Perfect for the winter months!
