SHEEP ARE AMAZING!
Sheep are able to experience emotions such as fear, anger, despair, boredom and happiness.
They also display and recognize emotion by facial expressions and prefer a smile to a frown.
Sheep can recognize up to 50 other sheep faces and remember them for two years. Sheep can also recognize human faces.
They are extremely intelligent and capable of problem solving.
Female sheep (ewes) are very caring mothers and form deep bonds with their lambs that can recognize them by call (bleat) when they wander too far away.
Most sheep have large, curling horns made out of keratin - the same element that's present in human fingernails. The horns help regulate their internal body temperature and can act as an air conditioning system during hot weather. Sheep have excellent peripheral vision.
Their large, rectangular pupils allow them to see almost 360 degrees and they can see behind themselves without turning their heads.
They build friendships, stick up for one another and feel sad when their friends are sent to slaughter.
And if given the chance, they can live up to 12 years!
There are approximately 900 different species of sheep in the world.
We currently have 15 sheep at HFS. Their names are Ghost, Tristan, Hallelujah, Diana, Freja, Odin, Soba, Mochi, Cinnamon, Twilight, Lee, Mark, Noel, Tuesday and Bruce Hornsby!
