Madam Letter

Happy Mother's Day!

Bert's was not selected as one of the winners in the First Horizon Bank 'Back to Business' Contest.  But Koucky's Pottery in Bokeelia was awarded the Second Prize!!  Congratulations to Nancy and Chuck Koucky!

Anytime one of our island businesses or organizations is recognized is a win for the Greater Pine Island area.  Thanks again to those that showed up and appeared in the video (which was fun to make) and especially to those of you that voted!

And speaking of being recognized - YOU DID IT!!  The Matlacha Hookers is the 2022 Best Service Organization per the Pine Island Eagle newspaper readers and those that voted in our community!!  That could not have happened without YOUR effort and support throughout the year.  Congratulations to all of you!

We had 18 Donors at our May Blood Drive Saturday and collected 16 units.  That means that up to 48 can receive lifesaving help from our efforts.  Stop by Olde Fish House, please say Thank You for co-hosting this drive.  Our next Drive will be in August with details to follow.  If you missed this one and can donate, the American Legion is hosting a Drive with OneBlood on Monday, May 16th from 10:00am until 3:00pm.  Remember that they serve lunch Monday through Friday from 11:30am until 2:00pm and that lunch is always open to the public.

Four more volunteers are needed for the Annual Postal Carriers Food Drive on Saturday, May 14th; two for the morning shift and two more for the afternoon shift.  More details are in this Herald; call Peg to sign up.  I'm working the afternoon shift, come join me.

Julia Gaylor, Monica Kochel and Deb Syring will be the Co-Chairs for the 2022 Pine Island Elementary Fishing Tournament & Derby!  The date this year is Sunday, November 6th at Olde Fish House.

Anita Jannotti and I will be Co-Chairs for the 4th of July Parade and we will have a planning meeting or two in June.  Please let us know if you would like to be involved or be in the Parade.

This is LAST CALL for gently worn bras!  I have a box ready to go but can fit a few more.  We are donating to another 501(c)3 called 'Free The Girls'.  They exist to help women rescued from sex trafficking.  Check out their website for more information at www.freethegirls.org.

Do you have experience or enjoy writing and/or applying for Grants?  If so, we have a challenge for you!  Please let me know.

The new owner of our Storage Unit is called '24/7StoreIt' and our access has changed.  If you need access, please see me for details.

Finally, I hope to see you on Monday at Goldy's.  We are awarding Twelve Scholarships this year!  Also, Goldy's has a Wine Special.  If you purchase a Matlacha Hookers' Wine Glass from them, they will fill it with wine for $4.50 instead of $6.50.  They purchased quite a few at the Luau for this purpose.

Stay amazing, Madam DJ

Card Shower

We have a Sister Hooker that needs some good wishes.  Bev Kindred has been battling health issues for several years, and her time is near.  She and her husband Roger sold their home in Matlacha and moved to Punta Gorda a few years ago to be closer to her brother.  Well, she needs some cheering up and kind thoughts.  Please send your best wishes this week.

New Note Card Designs

Are Now Available

Cards are 4.5"x 6" with scalloped front edge with a blank white inside

Each card is unique

and priced at 3 cards for $5

Our new Hooker note cards are here and will be available to purchase at our May 9th meeting at Goldy's.

These colorful and very special note cards were created by ZotArtz  and the kids at the Anne Carlsen Center in Jamestown, ND.  ZotArtz creates art differently than anyone else - as many of the ArtFest volunteers and attendees may have seen first hand this year.  Rather than finding ways for people with disabilities to participate in activities for non-disabled people, Dwayne Zot creates entirely new art activities and projects for people with disabilities and invites those without disabilities to join in.

Everyone from preschool children to senior adults can stamp, draw, roll and print to make their artwork.  It's all play, but participants learn, explore and develop skills while having fun together.  Parents, friends and family members can share the experience, pride and delight that creating art can bring - together.

Each card is unique and at 3 cards for $5  - a bargain.  Stock up and relax with a pen while composing a snail mail to one of your favorite friends, kids or parents.  They will not only enjoy hearing from you but also seeing and learning about how you as a Hooker continue to make a positive difference in our community.
