31 Women celebrates the work of 31 female artists in honor of Women’s History Month. Women’s History Month annually commemorates women’s contributions to history, culture and society throughout the United States. 2020 is an especially exciting and powerful year for women as it is also the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment, which granted the right to vote to women in the United States.

Highlighted individually throughout the exhibition are each artist’s process and inspiration, as well as her sense of connection to women in history and art history. Along with the show at Whitney Modern, artists will be featured on social media, blogs, websites and in the gallery – one woman a day for the month of March. This aspect of the show is intended to be a virtual exhibition that will be available to those out of the area, and it provides an opportunity to focus on a particular woman artist, emphasizing her unique practice and contributions to the art community.

A few works from my Crest From Below, Tahoe Tree Line series share the pages with inspiring works of poetry and creative short literature in iss. 21, Winter 2019 of the Catamaran Literary Reader. Catamaran is a quarterly literary and visual arts journal. Catamaran captures upon the pages of their full size, full color magazine, the vibrant and creative West Coast spirit with writing and fine art from around the world.

Keep an eye out for the next issue of The Mid America Print Council Journal. Vol.30/31 "New Eyes." This issue examines translucency, scale, surface, and stencil in contemporary printmaking.   "What we see affects how we see, which in turn affects how we make... Because of this, work of even the last few decades no longer sits comfortably in front of our eye’s new vision."   The Mid America Print Council Journal features articles on the contemporary and historical context of printmaking and works on/of paper.

I will be teaching a 5 Sunday screen printing workshop at the Richmond Art Center this spring in Richmond California! We'll explore color screen printing through a variety of layered image making processes - including simple photographic halftones using the computer in Color Curiosity.

I'm also developing a few other classes in experimental (experiential) drawing, multiple techniques for printing on fabric, and more explorative projects in screen printing.

Hello from the studio, and happy winter's end! I have a few exciting projects, publications and exhibitions coming up. Please join me, and 30 other women artists, at the opening reception of 31 Women in Los Gatos, CA this coming Sunday. This is also International Women's Day and the event offers a chance to celebrate the contributions of women in our immediate arts community. Expanding beyond the gallery walls, this exhibition offers an immersive look into the practice and inspiration of each artist - with a feature on different days through the show. Stop over to the MKM Art Consulting blog on March 22nd for my studio highlight.

If you haven't already fallen in love with the Catamaran Literary Reader, I suggest everyone check it out. It's a beautifully designed publication that has a great juicy weight in your hands, the feel that I've come to associate with inspiring words and beautiful imagery. I'm also looking forward to the upcoming MAPC Journal. The melding of contemporary innovations with the traditional, even ancient, techniques in printmaking is a practice I'm endlessly fascinated with. This next MAPC issue looks at that exact balance. How have our contemporary perceptions altered? What conventions have we shed? How do we now decode imagery? The journal is always available to the public for digital download. Keep an eye out and enjoy past releases as well!

This Spring I'm also returning to the podium... or chalk board... or where ever printmaking instructors stand! Teaching was always a significant aspect of my creative practice, giving my first structured demonstration as a 19 year old undergraduate. It became a way for me to see my creative growth beyond service to my own immediate studio projects. After a hiatus with babies and small minds to care for, I've recently begun offering workshops and teaching artist tours through the Richmond Art Center in Northern California.

I'm excited for this next chapter to open. Hooray adventure!

*Warmest Wishes*
