REP UMPIRING!

Recently, Jeremy Harding, Caeleigh Dorr and Hayden Dowdell represented AFLTUA in the Under 14 Girls Regional Champs.  Well done to all of you.  No photo unfortunately as they were not all umpiring on the same day !!  Great to see our umpires doing so well this year in rep umpiring.

Bunnings Sausage Sizzle

Sunday 21st saw the umpires back at North Shore Bunnings doing a bit of fundraising.

It was a successful day and we raised needed funds to help with the running of our association and development of our umpires.

We had lots of hands helping out at various stages of the day so a big thank you to all that came along and assisted with the day.  El Presidente has given you all one point towards your team effort tally !!

Club Person

And about the man whose name is on the Clubperson trophy; Doug Pearce is one of the legends of our umpires association and probably AFL Townsville in general.  He is one the of reasons AFL exists in this city.  He held positions on committees of both AFLT and AFLTUA and is a life member of both. He was also the RUM several times, over several years. He umpired at the higher levels of the game in Victoria and umpired well over 1000 games here in Townsville that we are aware of; probably many more.  He was also a great mentor for up and coming umpires and RUMs.  He was also one of lifes true gentlemen.

And for those of you that received perpetual trophies last year we need you to start returning those please !

FROM THE COMMITTEE/RUMs

  • On Monday 21st, some of the committee and the RUMs attended a presentation night conducted by AFLQ relating to them taking over the running of the local competition which has already happened in some Queensland leagues.  We had a meeting with AFLQ prior to the presentation to see how this is going to work and benefit AFLTUA. The committee had prior to this meeting agreed to some discussion points and these were all looked upon favorably by AFLQ and will be beneficial to our association long term.  One of the reasons we have been encouraging all to use Schedula is because this is what AFLQ will also uses to manage pays etc and it will make any transition much easier.
  • Number of games milestones.  The data for this is now all up to date.  Work started by Nicole a previous treasurer has now been collated so its in one source and all the data is now as up to date as it can be, given our records.  We should now be able to bring you these milestones as they occur.  This is also another function that can be managed by Schedula going forward.
  • The number of games medals and shields will still be handed out on presentation night.
