NAMASTE !

NOTE FROM CHAIR ASHA:

Namaste Friends -

Happy February!

I’ve been considering how NAHCA fits into the swirl of our everyday existence. The lived experience of 2020 was that of momentous social and political upheaval that pushed many of us in the US to
re-examine our own understandings of social systems and political engagement. In the face of uncertainty, deep soul-searching regarding identity, social inequity, scarcity and loss, it became evident that the practices and philosophies of spiritual care are not just helpful but essential.

In the Bhagavad Gita, Sri Krishna counsels that we must live and strive as best we can in and for this world. This world which contains all that we hold dear and know. And it is a multiplicity of Kurukshetras, all of which require tending, sifting, fertilizing and seeding using our best efforts and with the hands of many. Even those we may not easily identify with at first. Humankind thrives when we lean into a perspective of karuna, a socially-oriented compassion that extends our hands, minds and hearts to others.

I invite you to envision NAHCA as a deep, sweet watered well that you come to every month, at least, to share and learn. An invigorating and nourishing well that empowers you to handle whatever life presents. Think of us as a safe space of conversation, contemplation, and creativity where you are always welcome. We eagerly invite you to join us on this journey of cultivating and expanding spiritual care practices and philosophies grounded in Hinduism.

As a reminder, this is the last month to take advantage of the early-bird registration fee for our annual conference.

We are pleased to announce that NAHCA and Chaplaincy Innovation Lab have officially entered into an organizational partnership. We look forward to the increased professional development opportunities this collaboration will bring.

There is still time to sign up for Conversation Circles aimed at supporting women and men of color who provide spiritual care. I am leading one of these circles and I am extremely eager to include Hindu voices in these conversations.

Sign up for a Conversation Circle HERE: https://chaplaincyinnovation.org/projects/conversation-circles-for-chaplains-of-color All of the facilitators are excellent so choose whichever suits your schedule best. Interfaith Dialogue as informed by the Nyāya Śāstras

Speakers: Dr. Brahmachari Sharan, Director of Dharmic Life at Georgetown University and Dr. Preeta Banerjee, Hindu Advisor at Tufts University.

Join us for an interactive session on the topic of Interfaith dialogue, where we will be releasing “Dharmic Guidelines for Interfaith Dialogue.” This document contextualizes protocols for engaging in interfaith dialogue on the basis of the Nyāya Śāstras (the science of logic). We hope that by decolonizing the premise of interfaith engagement, we will be able to equitably uplift voices that are traditionally marginalized.

Previously offered protocols for dialogue often require marginalized voices to conform to default norms. We thus aspire to shift the paradigm and create a space where expansive dialogue may occur. This work is supported by the (IFYC) Interfaith Youth Core through the Racial Equity & Interfaith Cooperation Award that is a part of the We Are Each Other’s Campaign.

Please note our new 2021 webinar fee for non NAHCA members is now $20.00.
It remains $10.00 for NAHCA members.
