🧾 Financial Property taxes are due by April 10, just what you wanted to read. I guarantee you that it will be budgeted wisely. We are doing ok compared to other rural counties and as a Board we support a responsible budget that meets the many needs of Calaveras. Some highlights are sales tax and TOT were higher than budgeted and property taxes were slightly higher. The expenses were lower than budget due to actions of staff. During midyear budget review we adjusted the Sheriff’s budget, approved a fentanyl tester device due to the seriousness of contact with skin, and a body scanner to deter inmates from having contraband. We also adjusted the library’s budget for the bookmobile. The County 2021/22 budget is on the website if you would like details. While on finances, the County has received $4.46 million from the American Rescue Plan Act. That will be allocated soon. My priorities are a new animal shelter and a new office for the District Attorney. As many of you know, I have lobbied for a new shelter for 20 years, and the DA’s office has a floor that collapses. |

The COVID-19 dashboard will now be posted only on Tuesdays. It will still cover the information it now does. On March 29, the CDC released guidance on the second COVID-19 booster; this is on their website along with the press release from Public Health. I know we are all tired of this. |

🗑️ Integrated Waste California Senate Bill 1383 has to do with organic waste disposal reduction, part of the State’s initiative to reduce emissions of greenhouse gasses. Part of this initiative requires edible food recovery that will mostly affect grocery stores in Calaveras. We have until December 31, 2026 before we must have a residential collection program. There is no change at this time. |

This past year we have had some significant code compliance cases in Ebbetts Pass including having to abate and lien properties which we do not like to do. If you have complaints, use the confidential Code Compliance Form by clicking on the button below. The Code Compliance Officer will respond, not as quickly as you might like due to number of cases, but he lives in our district so he is responsive. |

🚧 Public Works Roads continue to be a topic of concern wherever you go in Calaveras. As a brief reminder, the discretionary funds for general maintenance such as pothole repair, crack sealing, traffic striping, snow removal, pavement failures, vegetation control, drainage, equipment purchases etc., comes from the Highway User Tax and the Regional Surface Transportation Program, and it is never enough. The state funding is allocated to cities and counties based on population and road miles. Specific projects are on the Public Works website. This chart shows the funding for capital projects for this year. |
