This morning I enjoyed a hardboiled guinea hen egg while preparing sourdough pancakes with blueberries, freshly picked yesterday. I drank a hot cup of black tea with a splash of raw sheep’s milk. Of course these aren’t all from our farm (yet); no, life takes a village. I am so grateful for our dear friends here who freely give of their abundance as we share ours.
Not every morning is like this, however I am discovering the joys of a flourishing garden and a good home-cooked meal more and more each day.
We have definitely been keeping our hands full with working in the garden, "tribulating gloriously" in health challenges, and all the following:
Hosted an ax-throwing birthday party for our good friend David
Had my (Olympia) parents come visit
Olympia started a new lyme disease medication protocol, got a PICC line installed in my left arm and a new port replaced near the right to more easily administer medications
Started the Apostle's fast mid-June
Attended a piano recital for some dear friends' kids of ours
Harvested multiple rounds already of radishes, basil, sage, onions, lettuce, arugula, and many flowers- including edible flowers
Cherry picked at a local farm in Virginia (about 40 minutes away) and picked/pitted/processed 32 lbs of cherries into cherry jam, frozen cherries and cherry syrup!
Made strawberry jam from 7 lbs of local strawberries
Made over 25 new recipes from the cooking community she's a part of, from Blackberry Madelines to Confit potatoes with fried sage to Venison Ragu to homemade sourdough baguettes
What's in the Garden?
BEFORE: March
AFTER: Currently In June
Sugar Snap Peas, Garden Progress, Arugula Harvest (and bolting aka flowering), and our first carrot!
Put 'em to Work
Olympia's parents came to visit, and every time they come they find all kinds of projects to put their hands to. We have all kinds of fun, good conversation, relaxation, and good quality work! My dad finally fixed up our berry garden!
Crazy Kitties
It's safe to say we have some of the cuddliest and weirdest cats out there. Bagheera frequently falls asleep in our laps, while Willow enjoys doing somersaults and receiving a full body massage on the daily. Ladybell is too busy hunting lizards and mice- actually working on the farm, but we get cuddles in with her too.
